Only This

Lyrics:
(Introduction)
In a lifetime you only get so many chances
Romances are few and far between
My searching is through, for I’ve fallen for you
You’re the loveliest I’ve ever seen
Yet though I adore you, I must be sure you
Really care, and will always be there
(v1)
Only this do I ask of you
That you love only me
Then my sorrows will surely be
But a distant memory
(v2)
Nothing more could I need from you
Than to be here by my side
Be the heart in whom I can confide
(Refrain)
Only this, only this, only this do I ask of you
(Bridge)
I don’t need a lot, but without you, I’m lost, dear
Stars would fall down from the sky
So please hold me tighter, say I’m your desire
Don’t let love pass us by
(v3)
Nothing more could I want but you
In a world filled with hearts made of stone
Let’s find a place and make it our own
(Refrain)
Only this, only this, only this do I ask of you

The vocal is very early John Lennon, and the harmonies are typical early Beatles. There's some very nice chord shifts happening here. One thing I notice is that you sing with what sounds like a Brit accent. Funny as it's usually us Brits who go the other way. I know I'm guilty of sneaking in Americanisms when I sing..I do it without thinking. By no means a criticism though, just something I noticed. You'll probably double-six me now and tell me you were born and raised in Manchester or somewhere!!
Another great song. The influence is obvious, but they'll always be an audience for this kind of material. Great stuff.😀

@ChrisPrice Hey Chris, yeah, that’s one of those funny little ironies, the British try to sing like Americans and Americans try to sing like the British :p. When I first started posting my songs, I believe on the other site, I actually had another U.K. poster convinced that I was a Brit, he told me my accent was very “polite” and I should consider roughening it up like the Beatles did. I had to admit I was just a humble American doing an impersonation haha.
Thanks for listening, definitely a strong early Beatles influence as you said! Early Lennon will always be a great source of inspiration for me 🙂0 -
Echo Chris's comments, coming from Liverpool, I can definitely hear a tinge of a scouse accent, Manchester! indeed.
That was just lovely, and refreshing, the KISS concept always shines through.
Keep posting, loving it.

Definitely early Beatlesque.
As a fan of the Beatles, especially the early stuff…I definitely find it pleasing to the ears. Nice job! 😃

I hear the showtune influence on this one. And I enjoyed that a lot.
Nothing to do here but sit back and enjoy.

@Plain_Jane Thank you! There’s something so magical about that early Beatles sound, definitely one I return to again and again, and I’m glad you felt it captured a bit of that 🙂
@RainyDayMan Hey RDM. Yeah, I was really leaning into the show tune aspect, especially with the long intro. Thanks for listening!0
