I stand strong

My latest composition with my "band" lol -- band in a box.

https://youtu.be/CE9_VPghlUE

In the silence of the night, I wander alone,

Through the streets and the highways of my soul.

Every step that I take, every choice I make,

I keep on striving to stay in control

And I keep my feet on solid ground,

Not reaching for the stars, not chasing my tail around

I stand strong so I don't crumble and fall

In this world where dreams can break like fragile glass walls.

I hold tight to the ground beneath my feet,

Find strength in the roots, in the earth's heartbeat.

Through the storms that rage in this world I find

find the peace in the calm before the tide.

Every fear that I face, every tear that I've cried

Becomes a testament to the battles I've survived.

I embrace the darkness, and face the light,

Not sinking down way too far, not getting too high

I stand strong so I don't crumble and fall

In this world where dreams can break like fragile glass walls.

I hold tight to the ground beneath my feet,

Find strength in the roots, in the earth's heartbeat.

I stand strong so I don't crumble and fall

In this world where dreams can break like fragile glass walls.

I hold tight to the ground beneath my feet,

Find strength in the roots, in the earth's heartbeat.

I stand strong

I stand strong

find peace on solid ground

  • Especially like your lyrics!

  • This is a great song. I like the lyrics and your voice is fine. If I was suggest one thing it would be to add a harmony to the chorus. It would make it stand out more and give the song a bit more light and shade.

I really enjoyed listening to this.😀

Lovely again, I think my favorite lyrics were the opening two lines:

“In the silence of the night, I wander alone,
Through the streets and the highways of my soul.”

Really nice imagery. And the chorus as well, especially “Find strength in the roots, in the earth's heartbeat.” I think it’s a good message overall lyrically and very well written.

I agree with Chris that there could be a harmony in the chorus, maybe even another instrument, just to make it stand apart from the verses.

Overall, a great song, I really enjoyed it.
  • Good song! Strong lyric.

You might consider upping the volume on the main elec guitar to bring out that rock feeling a bit more (not the solo the main accompaniment)

Another solid, catchy song @Plain_Jane. Your vocals are reminiscent of Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders. The lyrics are strong, and your backing track and mix are great. I enjoyed listening! Nice work! 😀

    Cheers,

    Joseph

    Thanks all!

@carroll – glad you like the lyrics.

@ChrisPrice I agree on adding harmony.

@BeatlesFan64 – yeah, the lines ““In the silence of the night, I wander alone,

Through the streets and the highways of my soul.” Came to me because of times lying awake and pondering life….I think we’ve all been there.

@RainyDayMan – yeah, I actually had turned down the main electric guitar I thought it to be too much but I’m sure it could use tweaked and up in the mix a bit.

@icystorm – funny now you mention Chrissie Hynde - I also had a few Pretenders albums back in the day. I guess you could call her another one of my “vocal coaches” I learned from.

  • Sorry for the delay in comments, been on holiday.

Great song enjoyed listening to it very much.

What needed to be said has been said by others.

    Good advice I agree with.

    Applause well earned.

    Sid

  • @Plain_Jane Indeed, Chrissie Hynde was a great choice for 'vocal coach' along with Debbie Harry that I mentioned with your other recent song, "Heart Still Beats For You". Who else was influential in your cool vocal style?

    Cheers,

    Joseph

    @icystorm

    Hey Joseph,

My other early vocal influences would have been Olivia Newton John, Stevie Nicks, Pat Benatar and Dennis DeYoung form Styx. I love a lot of rock and prog rock bands (Rush, Genesis and Yes) but can’t say I took on any of their vocal styles especially Geddy Lee from Rush "ouch" lol -- I've heard people referring to his singing as sounding like a cat with its tail getting stepping on 😂. They are my all-time fav but really, I can’t say that was a vocal style I would want to emulate 😂

I have posted a couple of country-ish tunes but don't have anyone in that genre that influenced me. Actually, I wasn't ever even a country rock fan!! 😂 lol -- I just decided to write a couple in that style.

    @Plain_Jane

I also enjoyed the music of each of those artists/groups you mentioned. Those were/are very good influences for you to have! Like you, I was never a country fan, although there were a few cross-over country-pop tracks that weren't too bad. I look forward to your next song soon! As I mentioned before, it would be fun to record a duet with you one of these days! I'm still working on songs to accompany my horror-thriller novel for now, but I only have a few left to write and record demos for. 😀

    Take care,

    Joseph

  • The lyrics are quite good and possess a profound sense of self-awareness and resilience. How the lyrics show the struggle to maintain balance throughout the entire song felt like glue holding the piece together very well.
