[intro]

[verse 1]

The first kiss was on your porch

And since then I've carried a torch,

What I put you through, you didn't deserve

If I saw you now, I would'nt have the nerve

[chorus]

To tell you that I miss you

and miss that I can't kiss you

To hold you in my arms

all through the night

Lose the bitterness you feel,

and I promise not to steal

Your heart, I'll give you mine,

if I thought it would make it right

[verse 2]

I'm not sayin' that you should,

or expecting that you would

Forgive me for all the pain,

you suffered because of me

Heartbreak and heartache,

you carried since you left

Drink and drugs you took,

in the hope they'd set you free

[chorus]

To tell you that I miss you,

and miss that I can't kiss you

To hold you in my arms,

all through the night

Lose the bitterness you feel,

and I promise not to steal

Your heart, I'll give you mine,

if I thought it would make it right

[verse 3]

Wherever you close your eyes,

and remember all the lies

Broken promises,

that never came true

You have the right to hate me,

I hate I can't make it right

And the only light that comes,

we found it's all right.

[chorus]

To tell you that I miss you,

and miss that I can't kiss you

To hold you in my arms,

all through the night

Lose the bitterness you feel,

and I promise not to steal

Your heart, I'll give you mine,

if I thought it would make it right

[bridge]

You left me with the memories,

that I run inside my head

Took away your dreams,

and left you nightmares instead

[chorus]

To tell you that I miss you,

and miss that I can't kiss you

To hold you in my arms,

all through the night

Lose the bitterness you feel,

and I promise not to steal

Your heart, I'll give you mine,

if I thought it would make it right

[outro]

To tell you that I miss you,

and miss that I can't kiss you

To hold you in my arms,

all through the night

I like the vibe 😀 Relatable. I'm sure most of us have carried a torch at some point in our lives.

I see the vocals are AI? Is the backing music also AI? This whole AI thing is new to me. I'm just getting on board with Band in a Box. Although, that's been out for decades now.

Another great tune! The AI voice can be a bit wonky at times, but the harmonies in the chorus are really good. I love the melody, has that good old country rock ballad feel, which you really can't go wrong with. Overall, really enjoyable listen! Lyrics were super heartfelt too. If I were to have any nitpick, it's that after the first verse / chorus transition ("If I saw you now, I wouldn't have the nerve / To tell you that I miss you"), the choruses don't follow smoothly anymore, it just jumps into "to tell you...". From the second chorus on, I would have changed the first line in the chorus to "You know I really miss you" or something like that. That's pretty much my only crit though. Awesome job again 👍️

Thank you so much for your feedback.

Your recommendation is an excellent one and I do take your point.

I will go back and look at revising that transition.

    Thanks for that, appreciated.

  • Works very well. I think the chorus is strongest, as it should be.

In v3 these lines felt a little disconnected to me:

And the only light that comes,

    we found it's all right.

But it's a minor point. And the song overall is quality.

Well spotted, "we found it's all right", was an Ai anomaly, that I couldn't get rid off. The app refused to repeat the original line. After numerous attempts, I gave up and changed the lyrics to what the Ai stuck in. As mentioned in one of my recent posts, I refuse to get hung up on minor Ai faults. On reflection, I think I will leave the original lyrics in the posting and just post a note on the Ai fault, where it occurs.

    Thanks for the feedback

Sid ~ What AI app do you use and is it free? Just searching for all options on songwriting at this point. Thanks!

Hi Jane, I use both Udio and Suno, each have free versions. I recommend Suno to start off. Both are extremely erratic, so prepare yourself for some delights and an equal share of frustration. There are a load of tips and tricks when using these apps, so have a go and if you get stuck drop me a line and I'll see if I can help you out.

Thanks Sid! I will look into those!

  • Hmmm, not sure why you picked those vocals for it i'm not sure they are right for the song, they give it a 70's rock feel.

I too use Ai but to turn lyrics i write into demos and it can indeed be a tricky mistress, music's good but the voice just puts me off.

saying that i'm not really a rock fan so it could be that, lol

Hi Dan, welcome to the forum and thanks for your feedback. If you have the time and inclination, I would recommend having a read of the discussions of some of the regular contributors of this forum regarding Ai.

You can find them under, General Discussion/RDM Ai Experiment. It does illustrate the different positions and views held by various members of the forum in relation to Ai, my own included.

In summary, to answer your question, I use Ai solely as a vehicle to complement the lyrics and in essence, "bring them to life". I treat songwriting as a hobby and I am a relative newcomer to the trade, so my finished product standard is relatively low when it comes to music and vocals.

I use Ai as a tool to help polish the lyrics, which it does do a lot. Given the current limitations and quality standard of the main Ai apps, Udio and Suno, and my own time/cost/patience constraints, I view the outcomes as one option only. Others may view the lyrics as being better served with a different type/genre of music/vocals and I encourage those views.

With respect to this song, Ai ran two versions, Rock and Folk/Ballad. I opted to post the Rock version.

I agree, it does sound 70's Rock, the vocals to me also sound very similar to Steve Earle, whose voice can sound grating at times! Bit like Michael Buble v Tom Waits, horses for courses so to speak or in this case sing!

Thanks for the comments Dan and I hope you continue with your active contributions to the forum.

Please post some of your work, love to hear from you.

  • whatever i say in my comments can be thrown away its just an opinion not skill or experience based just what i think when i hear or read lyrics.

i tend to listen to the music then the voice before taking note of lyrics to see if the sounds match, certain voices work better in certain genres, then ill listen to the lyrics because it can sometimes change how i feel about the voice, it can be part of the feel of a song for me.

i have over 150 songs as demos so not gonna bore and spam them here, lol

keep up with the songs, you never know, might see you on top of the pops, lol
