Hey, Where'd You Put that New Universe

I walked down to the ruins
on a day the grey sky moaned
I heard a love song from a broken mandolin
the professor of hearts and diamonds let out a groan
manuscripts were abandoned to the wind
there was no me - there was no you
all that was left was a bone-white view
When the final plan is set before you
tell me exactly what it is you're gonna do
If I asked you for the bare essentials
what, I wonder would you deliver
would you ask politely for my credentials
or tell me to go jump back in the river
n' see can you catch up to your potential
sounds came from a shut-down forest
they rose cantrapuntally a blown-out chorus
When the final plan is set before you
tell me exactly what it is you're gonna do
I'm unhappy with the world as it is
but who am I to say - who am I to judge
a man on the edge says the night is his
he takes a seat on the bench an' doesn't budge
the constellations collide and move on through
how can you walk so lightly - nonchalantly
when it might be the new universe - instantly.

This one has a Dylan feel to it, to me. Full of evocative imagery and intriguing phrases, but wildly open to interpretation.
I like the melody, and I enjoyed it, but I can't say I understand it.

RDM mentions Dylan. I'm not sure that I get that, but this is definitely you doing what you do. I don't really understand the lyrics this time but as always, a good listen. Keep em comin'😀

I like the way that sounds

Hi, I'm new to this forum so I hope anything I say is useful and supportive.
I really liked it. I understand the Dylan reference above, in that it feels like it comes from a late 60s, folk/ protest song vibe. The talk / singing works on this type of song.
Far more lyrically complex than the sort of thing that I do. More words, more structure, more meaning : )
It's rolled over into Tom Thumb now. I like that, too. That's more Dylannish.
I like the sound of the guitar. Reminds me of when I played, before my fingers were too numb to feel the frets.
