It's Better

This is a song about depression, nostalgia, and hope. It's kind of a sculpture, both in words and in how I handled some of the atonal guitar leads

The photo/image fits perfectly with the tone and mood of the song. Solid work.

  • Pete, would you be able to post the lyrics here on TSF please? My old ears aren't making them out clearly.

    It’s Better.

    Ain't you clever,
The way you put those words
    Together

At the coffee shop or the library
    Or places where
    They gather

    You just nod your head
    As they talk and talk
    About the weather

    When you give nothing
    Just a nod and smile
    And it’s better

    Better is
    The place I come
    From

    Better is the road
    That takes you
    Where you belong

    I was a child
    Floating on a breeze
    Like a feather

    I was a camera
    Filming memories

    Of whatever

    I tumbled down
    And skinned my knees
    And it was redder

    My mother came
    With hug and smile
    And it was better

    CHORUS

    I am adrift
    On the open seas
    A sailor

    Endlessly waiting
    for the slightest breeze
    Forever

    I carry the scars
Of the cruel sun, my face
    Like leather

    Each day I wait
    For the night to come
    And it’s better
  • Wonderful moody vibe to this - love it.

I get a sense of detachment in the lyric. Things like:

    I was a camera

    Filming memories

    Of whatever

The delay/echo on the spoken part works very well. And I like the long, atmospheric lead guitar notes

    I really like this one.

  • Loving this track Pete. I like the bass intro and the way it builds. The guitars are in the right places...never too much. Nice trem on the overdriven guitar. And that solo guitar too - terrific! Great lyrics and vocal and some nice harmonies. Excellent song.😀

  • For sure, great tune here . . . enjoyed very much ! . . . some great bendy guitar playing, I always like that kind of thing. Thanks for posting the lyrics, they are kind of dark, and positive at the same time, if you even know what I mean ? Really leaves an impression, well done, well painted.

popitup, there is some purposeful ambiguity in the lyrics and the mood in all my work. It’s probably because all of my music since 2020 has been a way for me to work through the loss of my young son. I look at this particular song as different ways of dealing with and moving through depression. But at the end of the day, the most important thing to me is to create something interesting to strangers that at the very least may evoke the moods in my head. The guy in the song is miserable in the present, but using the past and the future as something to lean on—-maybe? Thank you so much for listening
