Bedivere (a new song)

Hi all,

Hope you are doing great. About year ago, I was inspired to write a song about a knight named Sir Bedivere of the Perfect Sinew from King Arthur's court. He was known for being one-handed and yet capable of anything. It's taken time to write this and I now treat it as my fight song. I was humming it on the street last night and people were looking at me curiously. This is my first draft and it will evolve over time.

I love how you can write a song about anything - past, present or future.

Lyrics:

Bedivere, Bedivere, sigh of relief when you are near

Bedivere, Bedivere, stalwart a knight was he

He maims their toes, bites their nose, slays his foes and down they go

Giant and beast collapse with a wail

Mightiest knight when he's on your tail

B B, hope and trust when you are near

B B, steadfast a knight was he

Right hand marshal to the king, highest skill to all he brings

Charged with the most impossible tasks, all with one hand no less

He was one handed yet he did it all (2x)

Like what? Commanding the army

Killing the Romans too

Slaying giant Yshaddaden, the one at Saint Michel

Rescuing friends from imprisoned hell

Furious was his nature, with magical sword and shield

Red and gold was his banner, a symbol to yield

Marvel of strength, striking fast

No more deadly a knight was he

Wounding with his special lance

Painting the battlefield

Landscape of bloody red

Bedivere was of perfect sinew, that was his given name

Romano-Brittania, handsome was his fame

But his focus was on serving the king

Partner to the very end

Throwing Excalibur in the lake

Lady reached out and grabbed it

Transference was at stake

  • Yes, you can write about anything!

I like the marching beat it starts with, that seems very appropriate! It varies off that in several places of course, quite a complex structure.

    Enjoyed my listen. 😁

  • Thank you RDM for listening and commenting. I wanted to put some unexpected elements in there that presented a different mood. I already have a new idea for an instrumental part, so looking forward to working on that. Cheers, HV

  • Excellent Paulina. Yes, this song has quite an interesting structure...and quite a different subject matter! Nice recording too. I always listening to your songs and this is no exception.😀

  • Thank you, Chris. I will continue working on it this week-end. Grateful for your comments and listening as ever!
