Angel

It happened on a cold, November night

even the moon, was hidden from site

I was sitting in a bar, on the edge of town

reminiscing, slowly getting quite down

Chorus

I knew as you walked into the room

my friends, said it was far too soon

but I knew, but I knew

my life would never be the same

there were half a dozen losers like me

drowning themselves, but they weren't at sea

all with a story, of failure to tell

all with a past, where they had seen hell

Chorus

I knew as you walked into the room

my friends, said it was far too soon

but I knew, but I knew

how love felt, at first site felt

your beauty covered, all the cracks- in my heart

I wasn't crazy enough to think, I had a chance

just looking and watching, made my heart dance

Chorus

I knew as you walked into the room

my friends, said it was far too soon

but I knew, but I knew

I'd seen an angel, without wings

I finished my drink, a spring in my step

most nights, I'd go home and weep

I wasn't to know, this was my last

and that we would meet, deep in my sleep

  • Katie, What an absolutely beautiful song, I love those endings that catch you out, definitely wasn't expecting that.

That'll do for now because I want to go back and read it again.

Any musicians out there want to do this justice?

  • Love the twist in the ending, I didn't see that coming!

My favorite line: drowning themselves, but they weren't at sea

  • Yes, this one is fabulous. Like RDM, the ending caught me out too. Very clever and the makings of a great song I reckon.

Thank you everyone for your kind words, please feel free to use it if you can do something with it.

I have started basing my lyrics on finding a chorus, and building it from there

Beautiful lyric. I like the bitter sweetness of it... Do you play an instrument? It's very easy to pluck out basic guitar chords on a baritone Uke...

I have an acoustic guitar, I know the main chords. I'm not very good at strumming, I don't understand scales and keys..

I would record something but the microphone on my Amazon fire is pretty useless and thank you

Ok cool. This is worth you pursuing if you have like 15-20 min a day to work with it. You don't have to know much theory. Just what chords go together. Like Cmajor goes with Fmajor, Gmajor, Aminor, Dminor, Eminor. Then with a capo you can sing in whatever key and switch capo, as needed. My 2 cents. Haha! I'm such a cheerleader for people learning to accompany themselves. If you have a cell phone those work great with a voice memo app.

Thanks for the advice, I think I shall stick to the writing side lol
