Look in every window, but there’s an empty space inside

I read every newspaper n take it my stride

Think I lost my senses, such a waste of time

Always mending fences, but honey now is the time

To take the last bus home

Take me home

Take the last bus home

Take me home

All I see is the same old scrap about this and that and who gets fat

Who gets the icing on the cake, and who gets hit with all the c***

Think I lost my senses, such a waste of time

Always mending fences, but honey now is the time

To take the last bus home

Take me home

Take the last bus home

Take me home

Goin’ round the circle line, one stitch in time we gotta get outta town

Step back, get out in the sticks, the only place we can turn it around

We’re riding on a cowboy train, gonna take us there and back again

On the end of a smokin’ gun, brand fire new, yeah it’s just begun

Look in every window, but there’s an empty space inside

I read every newspaper n take it my stride

Think I lost my senses, such a waste of time

Always mending fences, but honey now is the time

To take the last bus home

Take me home

Take the last bus home

Take me home

  • A solid, uptempo, infectious rocker to end another great year of songs for you, Chris! High energy! Excellent lyrics, great instrumentation, very good vocals, standout guitar work, and very clear sound/production. Did you use a female guest backing vocalist for the "take me home" parts, and maybe elsewhere? Nice work all around as usual! I'm looking forward to new material from you in 2024. Merry Christmas to you and yours, as well. 😀🎄

  • Lovely intro! Really like that change at "Think I lost my senses..."

    Vocal layering works really well.

"Last Bus Home" is very relatable, and memorable too. Works for both the chorus and the title.

Great way to finish the year!

  • Solid rock! Very dynamic.

    Very good hook.

    Bravo!

Great stuff, Chris. You put the coolest sonic accents and “decorations” in your songs. Little things that really elevate the listening experience
  • Thanks for your kind words, and to the other guys on the forum.

The female vocals are 'Emvoice'..a cloud based vst which allows us to type in lyrics, program the melody and apply a few fx. It's the first time I've used it and it's amazing. It works really well with Cubase. (I used 'Hollywood Backup Singers' on a previous song - another vst which I don't rate very much). I had to pay for a couple of voices for Emvoice, but it wasn't hugely expensive and I now have them for future songs. A good investment I think. I'd prefer to bring in real backing singers of course, but space is limited in my home studio...as is my wallet!!

    Indeed, Merry Christmas😀

Excellent. When I first listened to the track, I never thought the female vocals were generated using a vst. Very cool use of that technology, Chris!

Some kinda rockabilly cowboy grinding it out on the stage, gyrus pelving and part of a bigger scene. Sad and plaintive with energy, desolation is a fever. A great side.

  • I'm getting such a 90s Alternate/Modern Rock feel from this and I love it! The lyrics sound jaded but the melody is catchy, just the kind of juxtaposition that fits music like this.
