Spellbound

After a scare and a spell in hospital 3 plus years ago, I decided that, as part of my recovery program, I was going to go headlong into writing recording again and this was my first effort. It was also the first song I ever posted on TSF. Listening back now, the mix was pretty awful, but it still seem to be well received. The song is about optimism and we all need some of that right now. Here’s a new version of ‘Spellbound’. New song very soon...

Spellbound

Words and music by Chris Price ©2019

Shinin’ like a beacon, spangle like a star

An ordinance of faith, so near but so far

Somewhere in the ether, somewhere quite nice

Hidden in the closet, it’s always out of sight

I’m rollin’ the ivories, shake’em out the cup

Feel the earth move as the cosmos erupts

Adding up my counters, every side of the dice

Gonna put all together, it’s gonna be alright

Baby, don’t look at me like that

I got me a new suit and a brand new hat

Believe me, honey, I know where it’s at

Cos I’m spellbound, another kinda sound

Spellbound, I’m turn’ it around

Drivin’ like a demon, a thousand miles an hour

Screamin’ like a mad man as I’m climbing up the tower

Holdin’ on to somethin’ as I try to break the fall

Lookin’ for the man, but he ain’t playin’ ball

Gonna place a wager, give it everythin’ I got

The chances of survival, right here on the spot

Adding up my counters, every side of the dice

Gonna put all together, it’s gonna be alright

Baby, don’t look at me like that

I got me a new suit and a brand new hat

Believe me, honey, I know where it’s at

Cos I’m spellbound, another kinda sound

Spellbound, I’m turn’ it around

  • I don't remember this one tbh, but I like what I'm hearing now!

Chorus is the heart of this one, as it should be. Solo works very well too.

    Good stuff! 😄

  • What a great groovin' tune you have here ! Upbeat lyrically and musically, smooth and clear recording, maybe it just has it all . . . very much enjoyed this listen !

  • Sounds great. I like the rhythm, pure vibes.

    Your voice is really cool.

The bass work is great, the production in general is a pleasure, everything is flowing nicely and at the right place at the right time.

    Enjoyed listening, Haim.

  • Excellent work as usual, Chris! Cool song! I agree with everyone else's accolades about the song. It's a nice uptempo rocker! The vocals, musicianship, and production are great! Thanks for sharing.

    Cheers,

    Joseph

Nothing like a stint in hospital to put things into perspective. Hope everything is alright now.

As for the song, that's much better than alright and the recording sounds very polished indeed!

    Cheers.
