One Bullet Away

So I was listening to Alice In Chains Rooster last night and it hit me how all it takes is a single bullet to change the course of history, families, everything. So I woke up and this came to me.

One Bullet Away

Crawling through trenches death leading the way
Flashbacks of home waiting in a mail crate
Realizing the tithing he’s doing today
Is because he remained one bullet away

One bullet
One bullet
One bullet away
From changing the world
And changing his fate
No father, no son, only words on a grave
One bullet
One bullet
One bullet away

Pictures burned memories into his head
Now flashbacks are friends forever at rest
The Potters own vessels re-kiln the clay
One bullet, one bullet, one bullet away

One bullet
One bullet
One bullet away
From changing the world
And changing its fate
No fathers, no sons, only words on a grave
One bullet
One bullet
One bullet away

What’s missing, what’s gone, we’ll never know
The theater of war reaps what it sows
The greatness we lost shall ever remain
Blood on the hands of those who dictate

We’re One bullet
One bullet
One bullet away
From changing the world
And changing its fate
No fathers, no sons, only words on a grave
One bullet
One bullet
One bullet away

Prepare for the meeting
Come when it may
And hope you will stay
One bullet away

it is powerful.and an argument against senseless violence.a bullet too far.
I myself wrote a poem about it last year Stone Pad
    April 6 2022

If the stones could Speak they would silendly scattered To sand After this story been told you.ll never now the trought how it went after this dance of fools.as there body.s layed cold In the ground the uncontrollable emptiness as bombs
numming the sound of words no longer been spoken as a moonscape of craters
scaddert The land where they were When words where still spoken Now killing is the only thing they share are there roads beyond these lines from the front is the chiseled cry interrogated or liying deep under the sand is there still room
for a new beginning as we see a thousand stars fail in vain appearance Looking for our loved ones the sand of the stones is silent it does not answer If you have questions It.s gone Silend......

    Peace rem
  • Youre free to juse it .or alter it to make it a song.
  • Another good one! Powerful rhythm in that chorus. Feels like a hard, driving rock style.

Strong message in the verses, but it's the chorus that does the work for me.

  • Nice lyrics, MPDudash! It's interesting that you were inspired by Alice in Chains for this one. I'm not super familiar with their work, but I do recall "Rooster" and how it was inspired by one of the band member's father's service in the Vietnam War. Good job! I can imagine a melody and the meter of the lyrics set to music for the song.

I think the best lines were:

    What’s missing, what’s gone, we’ll never know
The theater of war reaps what it sows
The greatness we lost shall ever remain
Blood on the hands of those who dictate

    Good stuff!

    Cheers,

    Joseph
