We All Know

I'm taking a break until September after this offering. I'll still be looking in, but I need to recharge my batteries. This is something of a departure from my usual style. It started out on the acoustic guitar but quickly evolved into a country song. I wasn't sure what to make of it but it seems to gone down well with some folks. Let's see what happens here. I won't be offended if it gets some stick. There's plenty more rock n roll to come.

I wear this old bone suit

but I’m puttin’ on the syle

Don’t know where it come from

but I been this way a while

You may think I’m wired up wrong

this side of insane

Just as well for me that you can’t

climb aboard my train

There’s only one way out

and there can be no doubt

I lived this way a long long time

wearin’ the same old hat

Tell me that you seen the signs

but I know where it’s at

Some things best left unsaid

but ya always seem to know

When you don’t you make it up

n let everybody know

There’s only one way out

and there can be no doubt

We all have somethin’ on somebody that we know

We all got places that nobody else can go

When it come to the reckonin’ well God only knows

Let’s hope my stitch in time is gonna help me save nine

and I can let it go.

Do you ever wonder what

I may have on you

Somethin’ you once said to me

or somethin’ that you do

Should I tell everyone

just what they want to know

Or should I mind my own

and let your business go

There’s only one way out

and there can be no doubt

We all have somethin’ on somebody that we know

We all got places that nobody else can go

When it come to the reckonin’ well God only knows

Let’s hope my stitch in time is gonna help me save nine

and I can let it go.

  • Haha - I just commented on this elsewhere but for the sake on completion - here I am.

Actually, a new point to make is that I think you've done a great job of getting a 'vintage' sound on this. The vocals are crystal clear but also slightly set back with that reverb which is perfect. Lovely rhythm on those guitars scream up beat country in a joyous way.

    Nice one (again 😉)

  • Recharging the batteries is always a good idea! Hope you come back full of ideas and raring to go!

Something about the melody in the verses unsettles me, though I do like the pause at the end for "and there can be no doubt".

The chorus works better for me. And the instrumentation is nicely done throughout.

Overall, I think this one lacks that earworm factor and a strong hook.

  • This one is ok. You have done much better. Bass seems to up front in the mix. Your a great player and arranger, this just falls short.

  • Nicely done Chris . . . this one brought to my mind the country rock guitar sound of Credence Clearwater Revival, of course with your own unique twist. It's great to hear you stretching into different styles, your talent allows for the crossover very easily . . . and a great sounding production !

Another great song. Always like your style and sound. It’s gotta a nice Small Faces/Faces vibe
