The Peace I Thought I'd Found
A little bit of sibilance I need to tame towards the end but otherwise I think this is finished. Largely another 3/4 song - I recently retuned my 12 string (first time in years) and I seem to have got stuck in folky 3/4 time for recent songs! 😁

When I was a babe
Playing with my toes safe and sound
I never thought that I’d walk
From the settee to my daddy without falling down
I know, it seems just crazy
That I thought it would stay just the same
So don’t tell me, I know
The time it takes to grow
Is too short
And what’s left is much less
The peace, I thought I’d found
Has moved beneath the ground
And I fear I’ll join it some day
The more you look - it moves
Like paving beneath your shoes
It’s bonkers
And so the more you try
The more you cry
The more you hope
The worse you cope
It’s bonkers
I like the box to keep my corpse
Warm inside
I crave the grave to hold me still
And warm inside
Rise and open your
Rise and open your eyes
Listen to the silence that screams
Throw away desires and dreams
Let all your hope drain away
Don’t heed what they have to say
They’ll ignore you to death
Don’t forget to mention Macbeth
And as the final curtain falls
You’ll be safe in four walls
I guess you’ve got to fall down
So you can look up at the stars
So many bright lights
At a distance so far
Out of reach
Maybe our children
Will make it there one day
Maybe they’ll put us in our place
And not let us fade away
So, don’t tell me
I know
The time it takes to grow
Is too short
And what’s left?
Much less
The peace, I thought I’d found
Has moved beneath the ground
And I fear I’ll join it
Someday

Nothing wrong with folky 3/4 time !
There are parts of this that I like, and parts I don't.
From "The more you look - it moves" through until "You’ll be safe in four walls" I like. That darker vibe works for me.
The first verse doesn't ring true to me. I'm not sure toddlers have such coherent thoughts, and it all feels a bit twee. But perhaps that's just me and others will just find it cute.
The 2nd (and final) verse doesn't feel strong enough, it lacks punch.
But the middle part feels strong to me. And I like what you're doing with the double vocals.

I like your waltz and the chosen tempo is great to tell-sing the story. I like the lyrics very, very much, they are really deep and touching even though they are hidden under the makeup you have put on them!!!
I'm glad you have the 12-string guitar in your hands again, there's a reason for everything, you've given it back the usefulness and importance it had at the time, right?
very nice work @CorkingCrackBand

Hi @RainyDayMan
Thanks for your thoughts. 🙂
I'm really glad you liked the lyrics. I think they're rather profound and multifaceted. It's funny about not touching an instrument for a while and then 'reconnecting'. It's a little like time travel... I imagine. 😁
Cheers both of you.

Hey there Lee.......Love the song. The writing, singing (reminds me of Roger Waters) and the music are great.
You are one talented guy.
I must ask...is this a solo effort by you, or do you have an actual band that you work with?

I just wanted to reiterate on how much I like this whole song and production. I'm not able to edit my original post, so I'll make another.
This is sublime!

Hi @IronKnee
Thanks for stopping by. Press release: The Corking Crack Band, formed in 1964 somewhere near the Yukatan Peninsuka by founding member Cuthbert Bloodrash (Bass, Vocals), Ted 'Teeny' Rogers (Rhythm Guitar, Vocals), Leopold Neverwinkle ('air'), Brian Toberman (Harpsichord) and... so on...
... but for you Tom: the truth - It's just little old me up here. If I ever work with anyone, I ensure I credit them fully as possible. 🙂
I'm glad you liked the song. 👍️

Very lovely and nostalgic in feeling. Childhood innocence recalled, home and hearth. These are all things that make us feel safe and sound. Beautiful song over all. The 3/4 time makes it all the more charming. Thank you for sharing your achievement.
