I’m three chords away from heaven

There’s a crack in the windshield splitting up the sky

Engine knocking time as the miles roll by

Got a pocket full of nothing and a head full of noise

Trying to make peace with the man I avoid

Neon in the window hums out of key

Like it’s got a little history with me

I keep circling answers I don’t wanna face

Wearing down the truth like a cheap guitar case

I’m three chords away from heaven

Just a G, C, and a D

But my hands still shake like a sinner

When I play what’s left of me

Yeah I’m hanging on the rhythm

Like it might set me free

I’m three chords away from heaven

But hell’s still got a hold on me

There’s a late-night station preaching through the hiss

Says grace don’t care what your record is

But I’ve tried that line and it don’t land right

When you’ve spent this long in a losing fight

I’ve been talking to ghosts in the space between songs

Where the truth comes out but it don’t stay long

Every chord I strike is a small confession

Every silence louder than the lesson

I’m three chords away from heaven

Just a G, C, and a D

But my hands still shake like a sinner

When I play what’s left of me

Yeah I’m hanging on the rhythm

Like it might set me free

I’m three chords away from heaven

But hell’s still got a hold on me

Bridge

If there’s a way through the mess I made

It ain’t in a bottle or a debt unpaid

Maybe it’s hidden in a change of key

Somewhere the truth finally stays with me

I’m three chords away from heaven

And I’m closer than I’ve been

Every scar’s a hallelujah

Every loss a hidden hymn

Yeah I’m singing for forgiveness

Like it’s buried in the key

I’m three chords away from heaven

Lord, don’t give up on me.

  • this is catchy, gets stuck in your head - I’m three chords away from heaven

My heaven chords are Em, Am, Bm 😂

  • "Engine knocking time as the miles roll by" what a lovely descriptive line!

"Neon in the window hums out of key" I didn't understand that one.

I like the "three chords away from heaven" theme. I think you've used the musical references well in the chorus, with the Rhythm reference, and playing what's left of me. It holds together well. The "G, C, and a D" doesn't mean a whole lot, but it still fits and sounds good and reinforces the theme.

And the heaven/hell theme is reinforced throughout.

"I’ve been talking to ghosts in the space between songs" that's another good line, and I like the internal near rhyme.

And I really like the variation in the final chorus - that's probably my favorite part.

    I think it's a good one.

You don't like the G C D line ? It kinda fits the 3 chords hook

I can play around with it though , maybe something stronger , maybe it to obvious , I'll fool around with it

  • Actually I think it fits, just that logically it doesn't mean much - but logic is overrated!

So am I , but thats a different subject lol, I mess around with it , I highly doubt Sony is waiting on me . I got all these deep lines

Maybe I'll leave the simplistic gcd
