Faces And Stories
I never was good at remembering names. Anybody else got that problem? Well if so, this song is dedicated to us. As I wrote it I kept hearing a chromatic harmonica playing in the song in my head. So I found a fantastic player to do just that. It adds a refreshing dynamic to the tune, in my opinion.

I can’t remember names but I remember faces
Like a painter’s touch I can see the traces
Of a time when we talked and laughed together
In a place where we smiled yeah we know each other
In the cryin rain the wild wind and the sunny weather
No I can’t remember names but I remember stories
forgive me friend if I stumble stare and pause
I know your story it’s your name I’ve lost.
I watched you drowning in one of life’s fury’s
You fought your way back you got even stronger
You never cried about the storms or all the nasty weather
It’s a long long road with too many names and places
But when you show a smile ahh your memory raises
No not good with names but not to worry
I know your face and I damn sure know your story
And what’s in a name anyway no smile no mystery
But there in your face is a memory’s glory
It’s been a long long road with too many names and places
Break:
Naw I can’t remember names, but I know your face I know your story

yeah, I'm terrible with names too. Great job making a song about forgetting names. I would have never even considered that to be song material.
I know your story it’s your name I’ve lost. - I like this line. i can relate.

Lots of people are going to empathize with this one! I know I do!
I love how you varied the line @ "No I can’t remember names but I remember stories". Nice! And a great line in it's own right.
And the harp hits hard, especially the outro.
Well Done sir! Well done.

Loved this one too. Can't really say why, but I really liked it. One thing I always want in a "first listen" is for the song to "feel familiar" while still surprising me with where it goes in several places. This one definitely did that. Very familiar "feeling", but surprisingly different and unpredictable. I almost always like a song when it does that at first listen.

Hey thanks guys for listening and the feedback. Misery loves company so it's nice to see other people in the "Can't Remember Names" club.

That is a good angle , if people owe me money I remember their name
Why do we say that misery loves company ? No idea . If I'm miserable I like to be alone , So its a false cliche like most of them
Sounds good man , keep em coming

Hey there StoneFlowers ... it's a good write. I especially like your performance. I can easily imagine how this could be produced in a studio. It really sounds good, but a studio would add the dynamics that would make this cherry!
Good stuff, man!

@ElvisNash Thanks buddy coming from a pro that means a lot
@IronKnee Thanks my friend, yeah I don't think I'll ever end up in a studio. I understand the sound quality could be better, but hey, I'm after that amateur sound...so nobody gets the wrong idea that I might be a pro😁

Pro comedian ? maybe , Studios are expensive , depends on the quality . Hiring session players , young hip producer , So you don't sound like the Mamma And Papas of 1965 , or whatever

I love the hook line "I don't remember faces I remember stories" - you could use that in so many ways - create a Tangled Up In Blue 12 verse song around various stories if you wanted - great work

Aww shucks, thanks for your kind comments on both songs my friend

What's wrong with sounding like a pro? I get that the writing is most important, but the sound quality makes it that much easier for others to recognize the writing. I mean, even if it's for posterity, go for the best sound you can get. You can always keep the home demos, as well.
But hey, you have a nice demo, regardless.

Hi
Nice Song & Lyrics
the recording seems a little thin to my ears
maybe a re mix would do it justice

gracias amigo, yeah nothing wrong with sounding better, but the time and $ involved leaves me as an amateur thinking better to spend time writing than making the sound perfect. Ask @ElvisNash about it...

hey thanks for listening yeah the recording isn't perfect sound wise...but hey I'm just messin round havin fun, did you like the faces?😄

You know what I love about this song? It's unique and it sounds a little like the blues, but then it sounds like another genre, too (country)? I don't know but I like the message, melody, and vocals. I feel you did a good job!
Keep up the great work!

Yup does take some time and money, it's not easy . Lets inject some humor in it , I'm not singing that 300 times
