Back with another one to abuse your ears! This one is about a man who would like to inform you how much he enjoys his bar stool. At first it was going to be about reports I've read that bars are losing business because young people aren't into drinking beer or going out anymore, so my character was going to be in his hat and boots at the bar wondering why everybody else was next door at Starbucks while he paid $8 for one beer. Since I dream a working country band will use this song, I thought that might not go over so well, so I changed it to celebrating the honky tonk culture and seeing the bar stool as a front row seat to the good life.

I thought about adding a bridge or more verses, but I got to 3:00 just with this, and a bridge just seemed to break up the momentum. With a real intro and solo this could go to 4:00!

"Bar Stool"

VERSE 1

There's a place I go

when life gets heavy and I'm feeling low

Where the music plays,

and neon lights shine through the haze

PRECHORUS

It's my easy chair

away from all my cares

The place I find my peace of mind

CHORUS

Sittin' on a bar stool

feels pretty d*man cool

In my hat and boots, drinkin' Bud Light

Lookin' for a lady to dance with me tonight

Sittin' on a bar stool

Laughing with friends that are glad that you come

It's a gift from Heaven up above

Sitting on a bar stool

VERSE 2

Fifty hours a week

on a factory floor, on my feet

When I draw my pay

I head to a place on Broadway

PRECHORUS

It's my easy chair

away from all my cares

The place I find my peace of mind

CHORUS

Sittin' on a bar stool

feels pretty d*man cool

In my hat and boots, drinkin' Bud Light

Lookin' for a lady to dance with me tonight

Sittin' on a bar stool

Laughing with friends that are glad that you come

It's a gift from Heaven up above

Sitting on a bar stool

(SOLO, REPEAT CHORUS, END, PYRO GOES OFF, STADIUM GOES CRAZY)

I like your song; it's simple, easy to hum, and what you're saying is so relatable that many people will identify with it. That stool is a gateway to happiness, surrounded by people who feel the same way you do.

Hey man, I'm on a stool down the end of the bar with a cold one waving atcha. Cool song my friend. They should hire you to be the regular entertainment in this honky tonk. Cheers😁

  • It's a familiar theme for a reason - it's so relatable for a lot of people, me included. That might actually be a problem as it's kind of been done to death. I feel like you maybe need a unique angle. For that reason, I actually like your initial idea, and I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work as a country song. A country boy complaining about all those fancy-pants with their lattes while he downs a cold one :).

The tune is nicely simple and catchy, although the first two lines are maybe uncomfortably close to Bonnie Tyler's "It's a Heartache."

Hmm! Perhaps so. I would need to think of how to say, in a few short lines, how he preferred his honky tonk bar over the Starbucks without him sounding defensive or pouty, wondering why the party had moved next door and the bar wasn't so full.

I listened to the Bonnie Tyler song and I think it might be the chords. I used to have her "Total Eclipse of the Heart" single, but I think I remember "It's a Heartache." Let her deal with my legions of lawyers (I don't have any)!

    Thanks for the input!

  • Hey there Arts... very nice. A bar stool is fine to sit and play guitar, but I'll take a reclining Lazy-boy any day!

    It's a swell song!

  • Got a classic country feel to it.

I think we can all picture ourselves on that bar stool!

The music is a good match for the lyric. "It's my easy chair" - and that's the feeling I get from the music. It something easy and comfortable to relax into.

    Enjoyed my listen.
