Under covid lockdown I was invited to join an independent movie project. It was an attempt to remake the 1980's movie "Date With An Angel". The creator brought about 25 of us together from all around the country to read for different lines and to add to the creative effort. I was brought on as a songwriter to contribute music specifically the song for the credits.

I asked him about what themes he wanted and he mentioned the power of the decisions we make. How they alter our lives sometimes permanently. The project wasn't able to secure funding and it fell apart a few months later. However, the melody that came to me stirred me. I wanted to see it come to life.

Under Covid lockdown we received government payments to help with the expenses of everyday life. I used one of those check to hire talent, create my own small group of creators, and bring a Director on from London, the Soweto Gospel choir from South Africa, a Palestinian Camerawoman based in New Hampshire, and an editor from the Philippines.

Although the song has been created and released I am curious to know what is thought of the lyrics, the music, and the video.

I appreciate your time and consideration.

  • That would be basically a sync contract if it worked out

Covid is a bit dated now

    But sounds good man

  • Can't access the lyrics, I' m afraid, don't have permission.

I'm going to provide feedback on this as an intended commercial product, rather than as an amateur recording. If it was the latter I would be much more positive!

The overall feel is very polished and clean. It feels like a professional recording.

Got a modern feel to it, and should appeal to a broad audience.

The intro chord sequence felt a bit generic to me, like I've heard it used lots before. And the piano is quite basic, but it improves once the main melody begins.

The vocal was a little unclear to me, but honestly, that could just be my ears! I wouldn't read too much into that.

The choir is the best part for me. I really like the depth that it brings. And there are a lot of layers musically and vocally in the back half of the song, and that adds to it too.

I like the way you bring it down to bookend the song with the piano again.

Overall it's ok. I can certainly imagine it being used in the credits of a movie, maybe not as the title track. I don't think it has the earworm factor needed to make it a smash.

  • Great sound. Very professional production. It builds well in intensity. I love the choir. I enjoyed listening.

For me, the melody was a little unimaginative. Also, I had a hard time making out the lyrics, especially in the chorus, which is where I felt I should have been hearing a compelling and singable hook. Might just be my ears. Overall, though, great stuff!

Music and lyrics wear the dress the story needed, very moving and well developed, with elegance.

I'm not a musician, so no detailed critique would be appropriate. All I know is whether I like what I'm hearing or not. I definitely liked what I heard. It was impactful, which is the real goal. Music is communication, and if it doesn't effect anyone, it's wasted time (in my opinion.) This creates an impact on the mind of the listener.

I really dig the beat. That's unique and crisp, the wood block snaps is it?

I think it might be a bit repetitive, always gotta keep things moving and changing a bit to keep interesting

I like it, just think it could be better .
And I know it's completely finished and critiques are moot now.

Just say good vocals and good luck with this
