Throw Another Brick

New Jersey
Always been a big fan of dropkick Murphy, a Celtic rock band from Boston.
This lyric has been a folk song, a classic rock song, a outlaw country song, even did a rap version.
But this is THE one
Very happy with it. grim subject I know, works in this setting

Johnny went to trial
For a violent rape
They said he took a knife
And he got some strapping tape
Tied her to the bridge
Skit her pretty face
Took everything he wanted
Left without a trace
Now, johnny done his best
To hold his head up high
But the people in this town
They wanted to see him fry
But was he really guilty
It didn't matter much
He wasn't innocent enough for us
Things were really heating up
The case went nationwide
Reporters in a crowd
Surrounding Johnny's side
But it never was as nuts
as it was that day
A trial by the roadside
As he made his way
Up the stairs to the court
Patience wearing thin
Till someone got up front
And they took a poke at him
He said "I'd love to pull the switch, hope you rot in hell"
Then Johnny grabbed him by the shirt and he yelled...
Throw another brick
(Throw another brick} on me
Go head and let another (let another kick) fly free
Yeah, Throw another brick
(Throw another brick} on me
I'm tougher than u'd be
The truth you're soon to see
Throw another brick on me
Hey!
Have to say I was impressed
By his tone of voice
He Wasn't gonna be a victim
But did he have a choice?
It was then, i saw it differently
I hade a change of heart
When someone's tellin you the truth
They always play the part
And I guess that I was right
But just a little bit late
Johnny had been shot down
By the courtyard gate
Later it was found
His killer done the rape
Thought I heard his echoed voice from the grave
Throw another brick
(Throw another brick} on me
Go head and let another (let another kick) fly free
Yeah, Throw another brick
(Throw another brick} on me
I'm tougher than u'd be
The truth you're soon to see
Throw another brick on me

Tough subject! And a fascinating story.
I think you've nailed it with the style, feels very appropriate. And somehow seems to take the edge of the violence.
Shame the ending got cut. Can you extend it?
You could consider "He wasn't innocent enough for us" → "He wasn't innocent and that's enough for us"
Good write!

@RainyDayMan great review, yesi can extend it, but ai tends to go long, I didn't want listeners ( all 2) forgetting what the song was because of a minute of noodling at end. One big weakness ai has is it doesn't khow when to shut up.
I've had some great tunes ruined because guitar solos that ramble
I want to sing and play on my own stuff anyway .
Really heading towards starting from scratch and doing covers.
Yeah your line might work, might be out of meter though.
Thanks for always listening, much appreciated!0
