The Queen On Her Throne

Returning to "The Invasion Of The Hypertronic Neo Shrimp: what done come from a black hole" for a moment, here's a song I know I need to strip back a bit as there's too many instruments knocking around I fear leading to an overcrowded mix.

The Hypertronic Neo Shrimp are ravaging the lands of Earth and the King is distraught. The Queen, left to rule upon the King's demise, gives the peoples of Earth hope for strong leadership from above, in this desperate time. Will she deliver or deceive?

The King sat upon his throne

And he marvelled at all of the things he once owned

But the times - they were cruel

And the Neo Shrimp had played him for quite of the fool

So the King, he jumped from his throne

and leapt from the castle and all that he owned

The Queen looked down

and spat upon the ground

“Rest dear fool,

now fear my rule”

Surely your face of beauty and love,

Mean you’ll reign in peace and protect from above?

You can’t be just like this Neo Shrimp thing,

No better than yonder King?

The Queen wields a smile of grave and grace

She looks to the land now a desolate place.

She calls to the priest, “dear man do me kind

Bring your flock and the hangers behind

Tell them of ancient times

And Neo Shrimp gods who forgave all crimes

They’ll believe or they’ll die

Do not grieve, do not sigh

This is how we survive”

“Rise, rise up, rise up my Queen”

“More death and murder than I’ve ever seen”

“Yes, we must support her and the Neo Shrimp, our Gods!”

“Together they’re too strong: what could we do?”

“Well, we’ve got to fight!”

“Ignore the Queen

And the priests who all lie

We’ll stand together or together we’ll die

Don’t let fear cloud our desperate thought

For in such cages are we caught”

“Make way for the Queen”

“Stand up fellow humans

And stand beside me (Stand Up, Stand Up)

I’ll be behind for protection you see (Stand Up - For The Queen)

Don’t ever doubt - that’s just silly (Stand Up, Stand Up)

I know you’d all die for me”

  • Quiet a song man , all original CCB !!!

  • Another nice one, my friend! The melody, vocals, and mix all sound very good to my ears. Your vocals are vibratto at times, which is cool. Come to think of it, I've noticed the same vibratto in some of yuour other songs too. Good theme, and definitely in the CCB style! I enjoyed listening! It's hard to find any flaws to critique. In the one line below (and this is extremely petty, I admit), I would suggest removing the word "of", and simply make it "quite the fool" which still fits the meter of melody perfectly. Ok, that had to be the most petty suggestion of all time, but the song was so good, that was all I could find to nitpick on! Again, nice work, and thanks for sharing! 😀

And the Neo Shrimp had played him for quite of the fool

  • This is the sound track to a movie!

I think the mix is pretty good. The brass stabs are just right for the context.

It may not be quite my thing, but I think you've got it exactly where you meant it to be.

  • I've listened to a few of your tracks..If this is to be an album it's going to have the kind of psychedelic vibe I associate with the late 60's. I'll echo RDM, this isn't really my sort of thing either, but it's incredibly well done. You are a daring soul so thumbs up from me.😀

With your humour, I thought the song title would mean she was on the toilet/loo. Or maybe that's what you did mean haha. I dig your songs. Thanks for sharing

  • This is a lot of fun. Weird in a good way. The way you switched between voices reminded me of Dylan Thomas' Under Milk Wood, and it does have that radio play feel about it.

I don't think the mix is too crowded. Sounded good to me.

  • Hi @ElvisNash - all original... maybe... I think there's more than a smidge of Canon In D in this - a very rare occasion where I pillaged another piece of music.

Hi @icystorm Thanks for the charming review. I'll be honest, I quite like the archaic 'of the fool' and think it helps the somewhat fantasy/whimsical nature of the song. Horses courses and all that.

Yeah, I lean into my vibrato a lot - possibly too much! 🤣

Thanks @RainyDayMan - at different points of the mixing process I had the 'battle' section sounding more impressive but I lost it at some point. I may go and back and see if I can recapture its impact as I think it's a bit muted at the moment.

Hi @ChrisPrice - I think I've said to you before that I think the late 60's rock scene is probably the best comparison for my output. Expansive but not technically proficient enough to be prog music, however with a lot of that invention and spirit. I think there's a bit of The Move and Small Faces in me. Indeed, I think Roy Wood might be a good comparison with maybe a side order of someone like Zappa... although I'm not a Zappa fan.

Hi @The_Big_Gundown - inside the song there is no toilet metaphor - unless you wish to find one... but you are correct that the title was a jokey nod to the toilet allusion - the previous song on the album is called The King In His Castle, so I saw an opportunity to create a nice mirror in the titles and a silly joke in 1. I'm glad you noticed.

Hi @OnlyGavin - it's interesting you make the radio play allusion as parts of this album (to correct @ChrisPrice this is from my last album not my upcoming one) were out and out radio play with a lot of it being spoken word/character pieces. Indeed track 2 - The Black Hole - is a straight 2 minute play. It is a story album.

Thanks for listening and commenting all.

This song, story, comic opera, comedy, minstrel song is an adventure. I really like the development, how it starts and how the different parts appear, this change at 1'20 approx. it's great.

The harmony created by the instruments you choosed give it such an authentic flavor!!! and together with the voices we can SEE what happens so clearly!!

    Good performance too! @CorkingCrackBand

its plagiarism to steal from one artist , its a compliment to steal from many artists

Even Bach stole , He took a riff of the times and improved on it

  • Hi @MoraAmaroLaLoba

I'm glad you like the switch to, essentially double time on the chords, with a slight alteration to a tighter melody. Your words are like a cooling balm on a warm day -always appreciated.

I'm off to dig up Lennon. 😂

I think the litigious nature of the industry is sadly both obviously inevitable but also deeply disingenuous. All music is joined. There are very few instances of artists actually being ripped off sincerely (and most don't care that much if someone else uses a similar melody/chord sequence to them as they know the score) but where there's money to be made there'll be a poo head in a suit looking to coat his yacht in gold varnish at the expense of artists. Not that I've ever seen a penny one way or another as I'm not a professional and never will be.

I'm always reminded of the Beatles loving Neil Innes' Rutles songs (check them out if you don't know them - it's like a lost Beatles album) and yet him not seeing a penny due to lawyers.

  • dig up Lennon lol
