Original Song - Windmills Of The Mind
Hello Friends,
Really happy to be a part of the community and engage in each other's songwriting journey.
I just released my 5th studio album - What Goes Around Comes Around in May this year and would like to share a song from that.
It's called - Windmills Of The Mind. I was careful and aware that the title doesn't clash with the classic tune - Windmills Of Your Mind
Link below:
It is a jazz influenced guitar-voice song reflecting on the beauty of imagination and how it stirs up inspiration.
Hope you like it! Would love to hear your feedback on the tune.
Best Regards,
Arnab

Jeez, what a gifted voice and musical talent...very beautiful, love the story line as well.
Couldn't help but notice the missing knob on the drawer and the big lock on the door...hey that rhymes...could be a song there.

It's a song with a very classic style, very pleasant to listen to. Many similar melodies come to mind, beautiful and easy to remember... like those from the past. Beautiful voice.

I love the expression in your playing, and some great chord progressions there. You have talent!
And a wonderful voice as others have mentioned.
The song feels like a standard. One to admire more than a sing a long - and no criticism intended there! Some melodic jumps and a decent range of notes to challenge the singer.
BTW would you mind posting the lyrics along with the link to the recording? It makes it much easier to follow along as you're listening.
In this case the lyrics almost feel secondary. The melody and performance aspects feel centre stage to me. Sound is key.
A beautifully crafted piece!

@RainyDayMan - Thank you for your deep dive, thats an incredible review of the song :) makes me happy to know that the song has connected with you and others who found something in it to relate to. You have also detailed out the other aspects in your review as well. Much appreciated :)
Yes the chord progression used in the song is based on my deep study of jazz music and it forms an integral part of my composition/songwriting. I love interesting chord changes and frequently use that medium to harmonically colour me songs.
I am posting the lyrics of the song here. Thanks for reminding me. I should have done that to begin with and will keep that in mind for subsequent posts :)
Windmills Of The Mind:
Well it keeps on turning
The Windmills Of The Mind
When I look around me
Reflections I can find
Parts that I’ve played along the way
In another space and time
I do not remember
How have I begun
Neither do I know
When will I be done
And it appears, I have the liberty
To be what I want to become
Just like the Windmill
That’s caressed by the winds
And it wants to give in
And it longs to give in
Imagination gently caresses
The Windmills Of The Mind
I dial into tomorrow
Through the trials of today
I won’t beg, or steal, or borrow
I need to find my way
It’s always bittersweet
Down the summer streets
And through the winters cold retreat
So I keep going back
To The Windmills Of The Mind
Look for a direction
Resolution that I can find
And when it feels, that it’s time to reveal
It makes my heart unwind
Just like the Windmill
That’s caressed by the winds
And it longs to give in
And it wants to give in
Imagination gently caresses
The Windmills Of The Mind
Just like the Windmill
That’s caressed by the winds
And it wants to give in
And it longs to give in
Imagination gently caresses
The Windmills Of The Mind

I know not of chord progressions and such things. Here's what I do know. I know what I like, and I liked this a lot. Wonderful song. Wonderful performance both with the vocals and the guitar.

@arnabs love the chords in melody in the intro, and love the tone your getting from guitar.
Jazz all the way. Strong vibrato in vocals. Should post the lyrics too.
Good stuff kinda like joe pass meets Robert Buble0 -
@arnabs Just got done watching and listening to your incredible YT performance. Whoa! Very pretty song. And congrats on releasing your 5th album! Dang, you don't need AI or backing tracks or anything but you!
Nice to make your acquaintance,

Oh my, this is superb. A really great voice and a fabulous arrangement. I can't say too much more because this is just so damn good. I so like the production here...really clear but not over done in any way. Perfect to my old ears.😀

Wow, you can certainly sing! Wonderfully jazzy feel with those chord progressions. Not usually my cup of tea, but I have to say I'm impressed.
The lyric didn't grab me immediately as far as meaning is concerned. But then again, maybe it doesn't have to. It can just float out there over those chords and turn the sails of those windmills 😉

@OnlyGavin - Thank you :). It's a wonderful feeling when I am able to connect with my voice. The lyrics may only serve the music at times.
For this song, the lyrics are pertinent to the idea that the "reflections of the mind" are all what I see and experience in the world of phenomenon surrounding me. So if I need inspiration or creative direction, I keep going back to the "Windmills Of The Mind" to create that movement in consciousness that will show me the way :)
"It can just float out there over those chords and turn the sails of those windmills" - That's a beautiful thought, definitely coming out from a lover of poetry :).
Looking forward to checking your music as well
