Fooling Myself, Again
Wondering how I can give this a little positive boost. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! Lovely Backing Track provided by Country Guitar Online, Youtube.

FOOLING MYSELF, AGAIN
V1
As much as we try an’ take back
Things we said in the past
We fall flat on our faces tryin’ to hold our tongues
Whether it be politics
Or it be religion
Fire from the pits of hell starts burnin’ up our lungs
CHORUS
There’s no way you and me can still be friends
There’s no way for you and me to make amends
Oh, and I’m foolin’ myself, foolin’ myself, foolin’ myself, again
V2
'Cuz t’s another stab in the heart
Picking each other’s words apart
Always on guard is no way for two people to be
Oh, and I’m hurt more than I’m mad
And I’m tired of feelin’ bad
But mostly I’m tired of agreeing to disagree
CHORUS
There’s no way you and me can still be friends
There’s no way for you and me to make amends
And I’m foolin’ myself, foolin’ myself, foolin’ myself, again
[Music]
Fooling myself, always fooling myself, fooling myself…fooling myself, again, ooooooh
CHORUS
No, there’s no way you and me can still be friends
There’s no way for you and me to make amends
‘Cuz I’m foolin’ myself, foolin’ myself, foolin’ myself…again

@HummerWisdom - Welp, based on the lyrics, the only way to make it positive, would be to find some common ground to rekindle the friendship, without that, the song speaks for itself :)

@bhengen thank you, Bill. That common ground would be songwriting, music! 😊 Let me give it some thought!

the music I hear with this song is completely outside your wheelhouse, I think fits the lyrics, - https://youtu.be/n7IGRNWVQkc?si=74PE2mu65Dn5Mc5K - It's Joe Jackson, breaking us in two. It would be interesting instead of the country backing, if you picked a piano backing. I think it would give the song more depth :)

"Fooling Myself, Again" is a lovely title for a Country song.
This one feels really down to earth and real. Especially lines like:
Always on guard is no way for two people to be
But mostly I’m tired of agreeing to disagree
Only thing I'd point to, is that this person doesn't seem to be fooling themselves at all. They seem fully aware of their situation. But it's implied I think that they are fooling themselves to keep trying in the future.
I love the mood of it: a sort of wry, bitter acceptance.
Good job, Renee!

Ahhh, this is emotional and pulled at the heartstring. You did a great job on this one.
Wow, I hope there is some way to rekindle the friendship one day, unless it was something REAL bad then let it go. But based on the lyrics, it seems unrepairable.
I enjoyed "Fooling Myself, Again"
Great song, Renee.
