lyrics SS : music/vocals Ai

[verse 1]

No call for cowboys anymore,

self-drivin' cars, an' drones.

That's gonna be the future,

have to make it, on my own.

[verse 2]

They'll sing of lonely Toyotas,

drones, that fly the skies.

Fords, an' other motors,

Texas dust, in their drives.

[chorus]

No horses, saddles or reins,

Tesla, done hired me full-time.

No open range, an' sunsets,

I'm just, a cowboy on the line

[verse 3]

This new age, turns a page,

no more dreams, of yesterday.

sleepin' on the ground at night,

just another, distant memory.

[verse 4]

I work only union hours,

clock off, an go on home.

sit an' watch, the open sky,

drinkin' whiskey, all alone.

[chorus]

No horses, saddles or reins,

Tesla, done hired me full-time.

No open range, an' sunsets,

I'm just, a cowboy on the line

[bridge]

Everybody's chasing jobs,

involves, workin' outside.

Wanna be, back in the saddle,

an' have, a horse to ride.

[final chorus]

No horses, saddles or reins,

Tesla, done hired me full-time.

No open range, an' sunsets,

I'm just, a cowboy on the line

[outro]

Got me a job as a Ranger,

pay's, not as good as Tesla.

Money isn't everythin',

think, I'll do this job forever.

Sad and relatable. I have visions of an assembly line and obsoletes when I hear this song.

    Clever and crafty lyrics.

Well done and I'm looking forward to the next country song.

    @bhengen, @TammyB,

Thank you both, as it happens I wrote two cowboy songs together, this one, and another with a similar title, Cowboy on the Make. Similar titles but completely different themes, I'll post it tomorrow.

Thanks for your thoughts, always appreciated.

  • It kind of feels like too big a gap between cowboys and today for this to work, for me. And this is a lyric driven song.

"self-drivin' cars, an' drones" puts it squarely up to date, but cowboys on horses have been gone a hundred years by and large.

I think you've got the mood and music down right for it. Definitely a nostalgic vibe there, and of course smack in Country.

Very easy to listen to, but for me doesn't feel quite like "truth".

Guess those tens of thousands of ranch hands across Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Wyoming, Montana didn't get the memo. You're not gonna get very far along the Llano Estacado in a Holden Owen.

  • Yup cowboys are history , especially in country music

    Sounds good Sid

  • Happy to be proven wrong! 😁

Only know because about 12 years ago, my wife and I spent 6 weeks travelling coast to coast from Florida to Southern California. We stopped off at some interesting places including, plantation houses, ranches and vineyards. We got to see the day to day running of a few ranches and spoke to a lot of people. The life is tough but can't recall anyone prepared to swap it for a 9 to 5 job indoors!

Off topic but I can't help but comment on this. You are absolutely correct. My husband is from the country, and ppl from the country appear to live much simpler and peaceful lives than folks on these "glorified" 9-to-5 indoor jobs. It seems as though you pay the price with giving up your peace of mind.
