CHASED MY BABY ACROSS THE USA

Ooooh-ooooh-ooooh

Well, I chased my baby, chased my baby across the USA

From Connecticut to San Diego took that bus all the way

Called him up in Columbus, tell him I’d be there in two days

That ol’ Greyhound, she wasn’t exactly a nice ride

That ol’ Greyhound, she wasn’t exactly a nice ride

But for a hundred bucks or so I could easily set aside my pride

Well, my baby was a cook at the Cote D’Azur in San Diego

My baby was a cook at the Cote D’Azur in San Diego

We couldn’t afford to eat there but that’s the way it goes

Well, I got bored one day when my baby was hard at work

Yeah, I got bored one day when my baby was hard at work

I stole a carton of Marlborough cigarettes and got arrested, yes I did

Cops threw me in the juvenile detention jail for three days

I was bangin’ my head on the wall in that jailhouse for three days

The same jail as the Cleveland Elementary School shooter, yes-sirry!

Well, they finally released me, judge said in San Diego, I couldn’t stay

Yeah, they finally released me, judge said I had to go home straight away

Well, that’s what I get for chasin’ my baby across the USA..

  • That was fun , not sure about the school shooter , seems out of place

  • @ElvisNash as memory serves, while I was being detained, the gal that did the Cleveland School Shooting was indeed in that prison. Funny thing, I don't recall the name of the prison nor the shooter.

But what I do recall is another detainee pointing out to me the gal that did the Cleveland School shooting. The reason I remember is there was a song "I Don't Like Mondays" written about this particular shooter. Anyway, just looked it up and found the following:

"I Don't Like Mondays" is a song by Irish new wave group the Boomtown Rats about the Cleveland Elementary School shooting in San Diego. It was released in 1979 as the lead single from their third album, The Fine Art of Surfacing. The song was a number-one single in the UK Singles Chart for four weeks during the summer of 1979, and ranks as the sixth-biggest hits.."

I know, it felt out of place singing it, too, but it's true and '79 was 2 years before I graduated high school and that was the GREATEST summer ever (after I was arrested and sent home), Lol! 😍

Thanks so much for listening, Elvis!

Good song Renee, love the background notes too! I think the anecdotes add to the song's quality, gives an added perspective to the narrative.

Quite an adventure for someone so young!

    Well done.

  • @sidshovel Thanks so much, Sid. Yeah, it was one of my BIGGER adventures as a young an' dumb.

Hey now! You got the Blues! I'm shaking my rump shaker.

Love, love, love true stories! I'm glad you can write and sing about it later.

This is a very catchy tune, and I can't help bobbing my head and shaking what Mama gave me.

Nice work! Thank you for sharing.

  • That must have been a wild ride! Hard way to spend a 3 day break, but makes for a good story!

  • @RainyDayMan it certainly wasn't one of my better moments! And it was the ONLY time I'd been put behind bars. Sort 'a learned my lesson!
