[Verse 1]

I looked for you in the morning light,

Shape the blankets make at night,

I reached for you as the sun began to fade

Looked for you in a stranger's face,

In memories time can’t erase

In the hush, where all our plans were laid

[Refrain]

And when I looked, I missed you every time

I found you in the space you left behind.

[Verse 2]

I looked for you in our favorite song,

A sigh the breeze carried along,

In the scent of autumn's slow decay

I sought you where your footsteps fade,

Silence that your passing made

I looked for you in the sky turned grey

[Refrain]

I chased your ghost through echoes intertwined,

But I found you in the space you left behind.

[Bridge]

Not in the places we once knew,

But in solitude, I feel you

In broken things I never mend

You rise and fall and rise again.

[Verse 3]

I looked for you in the falling rain

In whispered prayers I said in vain

I looked for you in all the words unsaid

I looked for you where memories stay

To carry me through another  day

The promises still ringing in my head

[Refrain]

I searched for hope in all that's left behind

I found you in the space you left behind

I found you in the space you left behind

  • @RainyDayMan - I really like the melody, fits the lyrics. What aspect did ChatGPT help with the lyrics. from my experience, and maybe this is because of the nature of my lyrics, what ChatGPT comes up with, makes little sense.

  • Thanks Bill. I used ChatGPT for inspiration, and evocative phrases, but cohesion, flow, sequence were things I brought to the table. And my own phrases! So some similarities with your experience.

That is a really nice and wonderful song. So many beautiful lines throughout, it would be unfair to pick one or two. Being a fan of structures, this was interesting and worked very well indeed. I found the story compelling, wanting the narrator to find something, yet satisfied in the space she left behind.

Good to see you posting Owen,

    Sid

  • Thanks Sid! Yes, nice to be posting something. Inspiration has been elusive of late!

This is emotionally heartfelt. You pulled on every heart string, and I loved it. Especially the lyrics:

"I looked for you in the falling rain

In whispered prayers I said in vain

I looked for you in all the words unsaid

I looked for you where memories stay

To carry me through another day

The promises still ringing in my head"

The melody reminds me of a rock song I used to listen to, but I can't think of the name of it. If someone knows which one, please post. It's on the tip of my mind and it's driving me crazy. I loved to listen to it when driving on the freeway.

    Bravo and well done, @RainyDayMan

  • Thank you Tammy, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I'm afraid I can't say which rock song it could be reminding you of. But this is literally a 3 chord song, very basic melodically, and it's likely to share attributes with many others because of that.

Great concept beautiful story. Love your voice and guitar. Without wanting to get too deep into the story...did you write the song to the title? It's the kinda thing I would love to sink my mind into and write about...I mean the title. Also, I'm trying to bring in other instruments into my songs...are you playing bass on this or did you bring it in some other way? Don't mean to pry.

ChatGPT ? What is that Owen

    Pretty sad song man

    Nice job Owen

  • @StoneFlowers Yes, came up with the title and built the story out around that. Fortunately not based on personal experience! Yes, I play the bass. Actually I played normal guitar in the style of bass and dropped the whole thing down an Octave in the DAW and used a Bass FX on it. And you're welcome to pry! Sharing this kind of stuff is part of what we do here :)

@ElvisNash Not sure if you are kidding me there or not! ChatGPT is an AI chatbot. Not specifically for lyric writing, but it's one of things it can help you with. Yeah, sometimes I get in the mood to write sad songs!

  • No idea what that was

Well, if ChatGPT works for you then why not I guess. You're honest about it, but then I wouldn't expect anything other.

What I'm hearing here is a classic RDM song. Nice guitar playing and some lovely lyrics.

    A great song Owen. I enjoyed that.😀

  • @ElvisNash Here is a link: https://chatgpt.com/ You can literally ask it anything. Want a recipe for tortillas? Who won the world series in 1984? Or write me a poem, song lyric etc. It's free, and it's worthwhile understanding what it is, and isn't good at. But be aware that not everything it claims as fact is actually true, sometimes it creates its own facts. We talk about Suno etc a lot here because it's useful, but there are other tools as well. ChatGPT doesn't create music (yet) but you can do what I did and ask for a dozen song hooks or evocative phrases. You probably won't use any of them verbatim, but they are good enough to spark ideas. In this case it gave me "the shape you left behind", which I turned into "I found you in the shape you left behind" and suddenly I had the kernel of a song. And if you have 3 out of 4 lines for a verse you can feed it in and ask for suggestions. Again, you'll likely revise them, but it's better than just a thesaurus because you can provide the context for that line. It will try to match the mood and meaning in its suggestions as well as the Rhyming Scheme. Useful to know about all the tools, even if you choose not to use them.

@ChrisPrice Thank you Chris. Definitely trying to use AI to help me, not replace me. Glad it still sounds like one of my songs!

@RainyDayMan - I finally remembered the song that your song reminds me of. I couldn't stop thinking about it!

I used to blast this song whenever I drove the freeway!

    YouTube: More Than a Feeling

  • @TammyB That's a wonderful song. Happy to remind you of that one. But I have to say I don't see the similarity myself!

  • Hey there Rainy.... the melody reminds me of "Sweet Child of Mine"

    Very nice! Love the lyric.

  • Thanks Tom!

A cool mix in the lyrics of kind of elevated poetic language and more down to eart phraes - nice balance.

I left a comment for you on Soundcloud. Loved this one. I'm mildly intrigued by ChatGPT, which I have to admit I know absolutely nothing about. I'll have to do some research. Not that I'd use it for lyrics. . . Got WAY too many of those already waiting in line, and easily write new ones any time I have a desire. Don't know if they are any good. . . but I've got plenty. 'o)

  • @RCJames @Hardtwistmusic Thank you gentlemen!

If you have plenty of existing lyrics, you won't need ChatGPT, at least not for songwriting!
