[Instrumental]

[verse 1]

N-E-G-U-S

Negus, can I talk to you

About the royalty in your blood

That you never knew

Your Black history was destroyed

And hidden from you

So that you could strive to be nothing more

Than a second-class jigaboo.

[verse 2]

Negus, can I talk to you

It’s hard to believe what I read

But I wouldn’t lie to you

It’s all written and exposed

At your disposal, too

[Chorus]

N-e-g-u-s

is the real name

Not the derogatory and mispronounced slang

Negus is the king of kings

The rulers.

Let me tell you

a man without knowledge is a ship

Without a sail

Get to know your true selves.

An eye for a third eye

But here’s a tooth for the truth.

Negus!

[solo]

[Verse 3]

Negus, you were taught self-hate

But to admire everything that didn’t

Resemble you.

Open your eyes

To the blatant lies

And lead the way back to yesterday

When you were kings and

The kingdom gathered to pray

[Pre-Chorus]

Negus

Tell your ego

It’s out of line

Sentenced to crimes

By a systemic system

Designed to kill and enslave you.

Never forget George Stinney.

Stop acting tough

And listen up

[Chorus]

N-e-g-u-s

is the real name

Not the derogatory and mispronounced slang

Negus is the king of kings

The rulers.

Let me tell you

a man without knowledge is a ship

Without a sail

Get to know your true selves.

An eye for a third eye

But here’s a tooth for the truth.

Negus!

[Outro]

I beg of you

To go back and trace your roots

To discover you.

An eye for a third eye

But here’s a tooth for the truth.

Negus!

N-e-g-u-s

  • @TammyB - great lyrics. kudos for getting jigaboo in song :)

My only critique is this line - "Not the derogatory and mispronounced slang", there are too many syllables and it' breaking the cadence.

Other than that,a great song 😀

  • Strong song, full of pride. I particularly liked:

a man without knowledge is a ship

    Without a sail

But "systemic system" felt a little redundant.

I like the music you chose for this as well.

    Good stuff, Tammy.

@TammyB This is an extremely good effort in tackling what is an all-encompassing and contentious subject.

You nevertheless chose a challenging and innovative approach to deal with the subject, an approach that paid off.

I applaud your willingness to embrace such challenges and to do so without fear of censure or vilification.

You represent all that the rest of the world sees as good in America, a hero of fair play and justice for all.

I take my hat off to you, Tammy.

@bhengen - Thank you, I know, it was a line "Not the derogatory and mispronounced slang" that needed to be said though. I thought Suno handled it the best it could. :-). I was shocked when she got jigaboo right.

@RainyDayMan - Thank you. Duly noted.

@sidshovel - Thank you. This is what I love about Suno, we can now get out our messages. This song was a poem that I wrote years ago but I changed it into a song.

Thank you all for listening and the feedback. Much appreciation.

  • Hey there TammyB....

You walk a very fine line with a title, "Nigus", like that. And "Jigaboo" kind of dates yourself.

It's a fine suno production.... not all that original... but, the lyric needs something really fresh to sell it. It could work. Just needs something NEW.

hahah..LMBO. simmer down, no need to raise your blood pressure. You were never the target market for NEGUS.

Thank you for listening and I appreciate it.

  • LOL.... no simmering needed. Just some observations. Believe me when I say, I know I'm not your "target audience" 😎

  • I had to google Negus , its certainly a different angle

    Nice job
