What Tears I've Cried

Here is the music only so far for the new song I've been working on: https://soundcloud.com/user-547160600/what-tears-ive-cried-musescore

“WHAT TEARS I’VE CRIED”

Every time I try,

to ease this pain inside,

the mem’ry of your smile,

still brings my soul to life.

And all I see,

when waking from my dreams,

is you’re still gone,

but still guiding me.

And always in my dreams,

when you still come to me,

the hardest tears I’ve cried,

have eased my burdened mind.

The love I feel,

still feels so very real.

What tears I’ve cried…

tonight…

And every single day,

since you went away,

I wish that I had tried,

more to be there by your side.

But it’s too late,

for the ticking hands of fate,

have moved you on,

but you’re still haunting me.

And always in my dreams,

when you still come to me,

the hardest tears I’ve cried,

have eased my burdened mind.

The love I feel,

still feels so very real.

What tears I’ve cried…

tonight…

Always in my dreams,

where you still comfort me,

I look back at my life,

taking pride that you were mine.

The man you made,

knows from where he came,

but you’re still gone,

and I’m still missing you…

‘Cause always in my dreams,

when you still come to me,

the hardest tears I’ve cried,

have eased my burdened mind.

The love I feel,

still feels so very real.

What tears I’ve cried…

tonight…

  • A brilliant piece of music, love the choral effect. This is something special, you definitely need to put this together and post it, absolutely inspiring, can't wait.

    Superb!

@schmalex As I'm listening to your awe-striking intro all I can say is WOW! Just beautiful. What beautiful vocals, too! Can't wait to see how she comes together with a fine lyric. Truly love your hook/title as well. Intriguing.

  • Strong pop sound. Good vibe to it.

The lyric is lovely too. Very sensitive and moving.

Hope we get to hear the finished version!

@sidshovel / @HummerWisdom / @RainyDayMan thank you for your kind comments. I will definitely try to get a recording in as soon as I have been able to practice it a bit more… at the moment it stretches 2 full vocal octaves from A2-A4, so it’s a bit challenging.

This is also the first song I’ve tried to write where I focused on completing almost the entire melody before starting any of the lyrics, and I think it really helped me complete this song faster than any of my prior songs (about 3 weeks). And it also ended up being my most personal lyrics to date.

  • Whatever your process, it worked wonders, it is no doubt exceptional. I'm sure I speak for a few more on this forum when I say, I can't wait to hear the finished product.

  • Speaking solely on the music portion you've posted you have got a very nice melody. If I could offer any suggestion it would be to try and play with effects some to give you more of a unique sound. I am hearing very basic plugins that kind of distracts me from the great melody you've come up with. If you are set on the choir sound might try adding some reverb and slight echo, maybe cutting down on the organ style playing (quick transitions between the notes) and holding those notes longer to give it a realistic choir feel. I think you've got the structure and melodies down now its just refining the music.

@OutOfTowner thank you. I should clarify that when I say the "music", I actually just meant the composition itself of the melody / chords, not the actual backing audio that would be in a recorded version of the song.

The audio I posted is actually just a direct export out of my composition software (Musescore) of the rhythm guitar tablature / vocal melody I wrote using the stock "Acoustic Guitar" / "Vocal" plugins in the software.

  • Ah okay that makes sense. Well I think you've got a great melody with this one. Looking forward to hearing the finished product!

OK. I've thrown together a rough demo recording of my vocals over the MIDI output from Musescore into Logic to give a better idea how the song should sound with my singing (still no real instruments though): https://soundcloud.com/user-547160600/what-tears-ive-cried-rough

I have also edited the lyrics slightly:

    "WHAT TEAR'S I'VE CRIED"

    Every time I try,

    to hide this pain inside,

    the mem’ry of your smile,

still breathes my soul to life.

    And all I see,

    when waking from my dreams,

    is you’re still gone,

    but still guiding me.

    And always in my dreams,

when you still come to me,

    the hardest tears I’ve cried,

    have eased my burdened mind.

    The love I feel,

    is still so very real.

    And every single day,

    since you went away,

I wish to God I’d tried,

more to be there by your side.

    But it’s too late,

for the ticking hands of fate,

    have moved you on,

    but you’re still haunting me.

    But always in my dreams,

when you still come to me,

    the hardest tears I’ve cried,

    have eased my burdened mind.

  • Yes, that's coming along nicely. Going to be a treat when it's finished. The music and the lyric are a good match.

  • The lyric alone didn't do much for me as I read them off the screen. Then I played the music while I sang along. . . That changed the whole dynamic and I LOVE the resulting song. Love the music. Love the way the lyric fills out the music, and love the prosody. Major thumbs up from me.

Thanks @Hardtwistmusic yeah I agree I always have trouble reading anybody's lyrics without a sense of the music, as there's so many directions that lyrics can go in terms of melody / rhythm.

    Thank you for your comments.

It's scary what AI can create in mere seconds what we spend months laboring over. Though it can be very hit or miss.

I'm pretty sure that this would have been a brief radio hit back in 2006: https://suno.com/song/fa327718-b929-4865-b43a-835b4540c0a7

Absolutely sensational Alex, real powerful driving beat drove this throughout. I tend to agree, in the right hands this would have definitely been a contender. Excellent piece of work to be proud of, well done. Push it out there!
