10,000 Words

Context: I’m learning Japanese currently, and one interesting thing I found out was that the word “mannen” means both “10,000 years” and “eternity”. This got the 10,000 motif stuck in my head and it turned into this song. Melody wise, I had just listened to a Chad and Jeremy CD so it came out sounding a bit like Chad and Jeremy. Anyway, hope you guys enjoy 🙂

Music and lyrics by Tommy L. Day
(v1)
10,000 words no matter how lovely
No matter the beauty with which they are written
Could never replace a moment with her
Could never describe how deeply I’m smitten
(v2)
I sat by the lakeside, pen in my hand
The sun shining down as I tried to compose
A letter or song to express my affection
But this feeling’s too strong for poems or prose
(Bridge)
They say there’s an answer for all those who seek it
The essence of love’s wondrous mystery
I’ve tried and I’ve tried, to discover the secret
Still I can’t express what she means to me
(v3)
We sat on the grass, watching the sunset
Watching the stars find their homes in the sky
And 10,000 words could never explain it
I’m happy enough now without knowing why
(Instrumental bridge)
(v1)
10,000 words no matter how lovely
No matter the beauty with which they are written
Could never replace a moment with her
Could never describe how deeply I’m smitten
(Outro)
Hm Ahhh

Love the unusual song structure Tommy, it carries the melody well with the unusual but beautiful touch of harmony.
Simple sentiment written and performed in your usual excellent style, I enjoyed it very much indeed.
Well done.

I like what you have Tommy, but I feel like it might benefit from a short chorus as well. Sort of:
10,000 words could never express
10,000 words, my happiness

pretty harmonies , seems like it needs a chorus , but it works as is

@sidshovel Thanks Sid, I really appreciate that. I put a lot of time into these harmonies haha. I like to think that it’s simple, but poetic, or at least that’s the balance I was going for. Thanks for listening!
@RainyDayMan Hey RDM, thanks for listening! I like your chorus idea, it fits the vibe and I can even kinda hear it in my head. Inserting it now would probably take a bit of work unfortunately. But I’ll definitely keep that in mind if I ever revisit this!
@ElvisNash Thanks for listening! Honestly I felt like it didn’t need a chorus because of how hooky the verses are, but since you and RDM both mentioned it, maybe I need to look at it again. Thanks again for the feedback 🙂0 -
AAA Structured song would have 10,000 words on top of each verse. Then you can get away with it
