Extract from the diary of Manuel Fernández Castrillón (fiction)
[verse 1]
The night had been cold, coffee was hot,
today with God's blessing, we will win.
The Texians inside the mission will die,
The debt will be paid, an eye for an eye.
[verse 2]
The hour before dawn, the cannon roared,
flashes, painted silhouettes on the walls.
That smokey smell of sulphur, filled the air,
the cries of the dying, were everywhere.
[chorus]
A church of no importance,
no signs, of its significance.
White walls, became a shrine,
to all those, who fell inside.
[verse 3]
Among the cannon shots, men advanced,
through holes in the walls they poured.
Santa Anna, sword clenched in hand,
ready to spill his blood, for this land.
[chorus]
A church of no importance,
no signs, of its significance.
White walls, became a shrine,
to all those, who fell inside.
[verse 4]
Texians to a man, lay down their lives,
no quarter sought or given, was known.
Mercy, was a casualty of former battles,
unending shot, made the ramparts rattle.
[chorus]
A church of no importance,
no signs, of its significance.
White walls, became a shrine,
to all those, who fell inside.
[bridge]
Smoke, hid the cruelty of the victor,
screams, a testament to the insanity of war.
Buildings, made to honour a common God,
lay broken, like the bodies, on the floor.
[final chorus]
A church of no importance,
no signs, of its significance.
White walls, became a shrine,
to all those, who fell inside.
[outro]
In the cold light of day, the ground ran red,
blood of the wounded, dying, an' the dead.
The Alamo, will go down in history,
scars etched forever, in my memory.

That's a different take on it to usual! Always two sides to every story.
It was a good idea to specifically include "The Alamo" at the end, just in case someone missed it.
You've labelled this as a diary extract, and it does have that feel to it. Almost as if it was written originally in Spanish and then translated. If that was deliberate, then my hat's off to you sir!

@ElvisNash, @bhengen, @RainyDayMan,
Thank you gentlemen, what do they say, to the victor, the history.
I often find that a better story exists in others point of view.
Manuel Fernández Castrillón, was a real Mexican General, present at the battle, alluding to the lyrics being an extract from his diary lent a degree of authenticity, but as stated, was indeed fiction.

Great historical evocation, emotional, fraught, brave- it really does reflect the spirit of the rebels.Nicely done

My thanks for your comments, history is a wonderful source of inspiration.

The lyric held my attention all the way through and the music is a good fit. Really good idea to write from the Mexican perspective. There are plenty of songs, films, etc. from the Texan side. This gives it a more universal "horrors of war" feeling.
Nice one, Sid!

Thank you Gavin, appreciate your comments, there's usually a backstory worth telling.

Well come to Calif , you'll see who won the war , its not Texans

You going to do the battle of SanJacinto? Santa Anna’s cowardice. Caught hiding disguised as a regular soldier. Oh Battle of Goliad. Released captives and slaughtered them as they ran. Used to teach Texas History. Read some gruesome stories in a book titled Indian wars of Texas written from diary entries of those who experienced it. Another interesting read is Cabernet de Vaca’s diary detailing his experiences.0

Alas, I must move on. Two projects I'm working on are the Endurance expedition of Sir Ernest Shackleton and the more recent fatal dive of the Titan submersible. I find history an unending source of material to write songs. I envy your experience of teaching history what a rewarding and fulfilling vocation.

Titan submersible, that should be good , what a mess that was

Are you recording in the studio or at home. It sounds really good. Great guitar
Your vocal sound is great. Who are you mixing it?0 -
@Thxcuz, appreciate your comments. In fact, the music and vocals are done by Ai but the real genius work, the lyrics are always done by me. It is a site requirement that where an Ai component is used, the Original Poster makes it clear in a prominent position.
In my case the notice is posted at the top, e,g, (right click then open link in new tab,) to open song. lyrics SS : music/vocals Ai
Thanks again,

I think this is the first time I’ve seen anything ever portrayed from the Mexican POV of the Alamo. And I’m a Texan so I’ve heard this story from “our” side a million times. To see it from the other side is so fascinating. Great idea, Sid!0

@BeatlesFan64, Thank you for your comments, as you say, one side owns the narrative so that's the one that most hear. I try not to take sides at all, just tell the same story from different eyes.

I appreciate the take from the Mexican point of view though I think it might have delved into Santa Ana's peculiar kind of madness.
