Cool song Carroll, very early Beatles. Did you have anyone in mind when you wrote it?

    Great song, absolutely loved it.

One of them easy sing-a-longs, with a can't forget hook.

    Well done,

    Sid

  • @carroll - I agree with sid. very catch lyrics and melody. the song gets stuck in your head :)

  • "Mr Used To Be" is a great hook. Music sounds good.

Can't really comment on the lyric because once again you have neglected to post it.

  • Cool tracks , I'm not getting the Beatles from this

  • Mr. Used to be

    Verse

He was handsome, he was dashing

    People would applaud.

He was flying, he was flying

    Till he came down hard.

Now he’s nothing, he is no one.

    Mr. Used to be.

    Pre chorus

    Reminiscing, recollecting,

    Reliving yesterdays.

The bar room is his stage.

    Chorus

Now he’s nothing, he’s no one.

    Mr. Used to be.

    Mr. Used to be.

    Verse

He was something, he was some one

    People could admire.

He was burning, he was burning.

    Man was he on fire.

Now he’s nothing, he is no one.

    Mr. Used to be.

    Pre chorus

    Reminiscing, recollecting,

    Reliving yesterdays.

The bar room is his stage.

    Chorus

Now he’s nothing, he’s no one.

    Mr. Used to be.

    Mr. Used to be.

    Bridge

    Once I admired him

But now it’s sad to see.

    Hope I don’t become

    Another used to be.

    Tag

    A Mister Used to be.

  • Thank you.

    I enjoyed the alliteration here:

    Reminiscing, recollecting,

    Reliving yesterdays.

I like the combined use of :

Now he’s nothing, he is no one.

    and

He was something, he was some one

I wasn't sure initially about the repeat on "flying" in v1, but just reading it again I thinks it works - gives it weight.

  • Nice. I agree with all the things Owen likes about the lyric.

Nice bouncy melody, although for me the chorus is maybe a bit too similar to the verse.
