Rock 'n' Roll Years

A bit more of a classic pop/rocker song.
Rock 'n' Roll Years
Oh you know, when I was a lad
If I got in trouble I'd be glad
Oh they were the days
And that was the way
A Late, late night with the boys
Drinking that bitter beer
Making a lot of noise
In my Rock 'n' Roll Years
Down to Scampie Joes on our brand new bikes
Inside I see a hottie - you've never seen the likes
Eyes as cold as ice and Bristols like Bombay
Ten minutes on our own, I could have had my way
I gave her a pat and she gave me a slap
Just one little memory from those glorious days
A Late, late night with the boys
Drinking that bitter beer
Making a lot of noise
In my Rock 'n' Roll Years
A late night party 'round a mate of Jack's
Barely room for jiving, yeah the place was packed
Holly on the player singing That'll Be The Day
I would have had Chuck Berry on if I held any sway
Jiving and conniving, getting off with Irene
Just another memory of those happening days
Secondary Moderns were second on the list
To going out and having fun and getting pissed
If you had an illness you would fight it through
Not collapse down in weakness like these modern kids do
Oh those were the days and those were they ways, we knew
A Late, late night with the boys
Drinking that bitter beer
Making a lot of noise
In my Rock 'n' Roll Years
Oh rebelling was in my blood
Too manly to shed a tear
Though my dad made my mother give floods
In my Rock 'n' Roll Years
A Late, late night with the boys
Drinking that bitter beer
Making a lot of noise
In my Rock 'n' Roll Years
Rockin' rockin' rockin'(x3)
Rockin' rockin' Rock 'n' Roll (x4)
Rockin' Rockin' Rock 'n' Roll Years

Surprised me a bit on the refrain.
Lovely story, and love the lyrics.
Reminiscing, what a beautiful thing!!!

Thanks for listening and commenting.
Surprised in what way? It doesn't have to be 'good' surprise, it's useful to know if you feel it didn't work. 🙂
Hopefully the lyric conveys a little more than plain reminiscing, but I'll leave it for others to decide. As long as you enjoyed it, it doesn't greatly matter! 😉
As a by the by I came here to say I have taken an additional couple of bars out of the run out, as it was a bit long so it's now x3 on both vocal parts. It was originally x 5 on both so you can see I liked that bit... it was fun to solo over. It originally had organ, piano, sax and guitar taking turns but I edited it heavily and now it's more of a short(er) mele. That's as short as I'll make it though, as , frankly I like it. 😁
Cheers again.

Hi @IronKnee
I miss your post as I was typing. Thanks for listening, 🙂
I'm pleased you liked it. It definitely has that 'live' energy feel, which is something I want to inject into 1 or 2 songs on my upcoming album so I'm pleased you saw that potential.

'Bristols like Bombay'?!! Might I suggest sir that that might be regarded as being politically incorrect in these, err, enlightened times! I jest of course. This is an altogether jolly rock n roller of a very Brit kind. Gotta say I thoroughly enjoyed it. The way it suddenly took off caught me somewhat by surprise, but that's no bad thing. Great fun.😀

Funny you should mention that @ChrisPrice as on another forum they all seemed to take the lyric at face value and thought I was really saying how great all that stuff is and how things are crap now. I think the irony of the lyric was lost on them somewhat.
I'm glad you enjoyed this one. I thought it might be more in your ball park than my 'out there' tracks. 😉

Hola, holo
The intro, so soft, ethereal, almost Celtic, did not prepare me for the change!! hahaha I was taken by surprise when the rock savage appeared!!
I really liked it, the truth is that I don't know what to tell you, your works are all special, they have your style so defined and personal.
You get a great mix, everything is in place and the vocals always have a great...vibrant plane.
very good story. @CorkingCrackBand

"the truth is that I don't know what to tell you" - *CCB places his finger to Mora's lips* "say nothing" He says. *suggestive pause* 😁
Thanks so much for listening and commenting. Your opinion is very valued. 😉

Musically, I love it. Really catchy and just a whole lot of fun to hear. Lyrically, I think it's very clever. I get the feeling that the narrator is thinking to himself that his younger self was a bit of an ass, although you don't make it explicit. Some great lines: "Jiving and conniving, getting off with Irene." I love that one.
And, yes, this would be brilliant live.

Lovely contrast between the intro and the main song.
It's a cool song! Love the guitar solo.

Thanks for listening and commenting @OnlyGavin and @RainyDayMan. On another forum (pretend I didn't say that) the commentors took the lyric completely literally and missed their sardonic nature. They went on a twin tirade about 'the good old days' and the 'useless snowflake youth of today', which I found very amusing. 😁 Obviously, once the song is out, it's for others to interpret how they please. It's hardly a razor sharp, pointed lyric but nonetheless I think its gentle intent went over their heads a bit.
Cheers guys.

Cool one, CCB! Very creative! I like the way you suddenly power-charged everything around the 0:30 mark. Nice work! 😀
