The life I could’ve had
The life I could’ve had
Verse
Self sacrifice I wasted life;
I survived but scarcely more.
I awoke and found that heaven
had long ago closed its doors.
There was dust and there were cobwebs
like some run down old ghost town.
The golden gates that used to gleam
were broken and falling down.
Chorus
I’m angry; I’m crushed
I’m bitter; I’m sad
I’m longing for the life;
For the life I could’ve had.
Verse
Self sacrifice for paradise
I’m alive but little more.
I’ve lived without living life
and I’m wondering what for.
By trying to save my life from you
I’ve incanted my own spell.
I’m lonely and I’m all alone.
I’ve made life a living hell.
Chorus
I’m angry; I’m crushed
I’m bitter; I’m sad
I’m longing for the life;
For the life I could’ve had.
Bridge
Promises, promises;
dreams that don’t come true.
There’s a cost for everything
and a day the bill comes due.

Definitely captures emotions. And plenty of vivid imagery. It's got a message and a unique perspective.
It feels like there's a thread of self pity running thru the story and that doesn't always engage the listener.
It's well written. I'm not sure how enjoyable it's going to be to listen to.

The refrain is evocative - and the rest has a nice urgency to it.

Powerful lyric. Effective lyric. I'm a fan of it.
