Emily
There's been some dark lyrics on the site lately, social & political commentary etc, which is all perfectly fine, but sometimes it feels a bit energy sapping, so I decided to post something a little brighter.
It's an older song of mine, but most people currently on the forum won't have heard it.

Emily runs like a thief in the night
Steals a kiss, slips your heart in her pocket
Heading out on a one way flight
She wont cry but she's not far from it
I dont know where she going
Or what she's gonna do
She doesnt either
It's all brand new, she says
If you love someone you've gotta set them free
Run Emily wild and free
Like a wave in motion
A river to the sea
I'm lost in your ocean
Where I want to be
Run Emily fast as you can
Climb Kachenjunga
Be a gypsy dancer
But when you're ready
Please come home to me
Oh Emily
Emily wakes in the morning light
Steals a glance at the girl in the mirror
She's shining out like a neon light
Her smile couldnt get any bigger
She's sipping cocktails in Zanzibar
Swapping secrets with the Sphinx
She's taking her time and
She doesn't care what anyone thinks
Run Emily wild and free
Like a wave in motion
A river to the sea
Lost in your ocean
Where I want to be
Run Emily fast as you can
Drink kopi luwak
Drive a Shelby mustang
When you're ready
please come back to me
Oh Emily
I got a postcard from India
Picture of the Taj mahal
Though it says she's missing me
There's no talk of coming home
Run Emily wild and free
Like a wave in motion
A river to the sea
I'm lost in your ocean
And that's just fine by me
Run Emily fast as you can
See the Mona Lisa
Write a tragic romance
When you're ready
Please come home to me
Oh Emily
Oh Emily
Oh Emily

What a nice song, Rainy. Love the rhythm guitar. Really like the lyrics, here.
BTW, what do you mean "There's been some dark lyrics on the site lately, social & political commentary etc" ??
Who? Where? and most importantly, Why? Besides, from the "river to the sea" has its own cryptic connotations, as well. 😉

Two for one there Owen song ran into The Right Time, also a really good song.
Emily is like a rose in a sea of detritus and melancholy.
Interesting song structure which I enjoyed and it worked. For a longish song it broke it up well without losing hold of you.
I'd avoid using place names like Kachenjunga, keep it simple like "the alps" or something well known.
I loved the first verse, almost told a story in itself, excellent bit of writing.
Felt for the guy, knowing his chances of competing and holding on were relatively nil.
Great song well written and well timed.

@IronKnee Wasn't having a go at you Tom, nor anyone else for that matter. Just felt the need for something lighter. Glad you enjoyed it.
@bhengen Thanks Bill! I'll take a comparison with Bryan Adams any day.
@sidshovel Yes, that girl is not coming back in a hurry! I know what you mean about not using names like Kachenjunga which many may not recognize, nor Kopi Luwak for that matter, but I actually love those details. It's good advice in general, but I'll not take it this time.

Nice song, speaks to me of someone who wants to escape the mundane of life, that can get you down and live a little. A fun listen, with some fun lyrics,
She's sipping cocktails in Zanzibar, swapping secrets with the Sphinx
Nice story to it as well, has a deeper meaning than the lightness of the song conversation

I know that. Sorry....my humorous tone was lost in the script.
just having some fun.....I really do think it's a very nice song. Everything I was trying to convey, after that, was lost between the lines.

@RainyDayMan Love that name Emily. I actually have an Emily song (dark) and would hardly compare to your fine song. Great theme. Lots of great, visual lines. Bouncy pop tune; enjoyed listening very much!

I thought this was a truly beautiful song. The vocal was perfect for that very nice, but slightly surprising guitar instrumental. This was one I wished I had written myself. There aren't many like that.

@Hardtwistmusic "This was one I wished I had written myself" I couldn't ask for a better compliment than that! Thank you.
