History repeats itself

History repeats itself
Verse
This ain’t nineteen twenty-nine.
the writings on the wall.
Grab yourself a parachute.
The skies about to fall.
Verse
War is the vortex.
The deadly spider web.;
The quicksand of hatred
That governments have bred.
Chorus
History repeats itself
Like the cycles of the moon.
Better be prepared my friends
Disasters coming soon.
Verse
Inflation is the fire
Consuming what you earn
But with their plastic credit cards
They’ve got a lot of cash to burn.
Verse
Debt is the anchor.
Credit is the chain.
When the bubble breaks
They’ll drag you down the drain.
Chorus
History repeats itself
Like the cycles of the moon.
Better be prepared my friends
Disasters coming soon.
Verse
This ain’t nineteen thirty-nine
the writings on the wall.
For the faith of Allah
They’ll sacrifice it all.
Verse
Greed is the motivator.
Conquest is the prize.
Religion is the atom bomb
Mankind must survive.
Chorus
History repeats itself
Like the cycles of the moon.
Better be prepared my friends
Disasters coming soon.
Verse
This ain’t nineteen ninety- nine
Two thousands come and gone.
Even Nostradamus
Sometimes got it wrong.
Knowledge is the harvest
Using it is key.
What is meant to be
Is our new reality.
Chorus
History repeats itself
Like the cycles of the moon.
Better be prepared my friends
Disasters coming soon.

  • @carroll nicely done. Yeah, I'd say the bubbles about to burst. The illusion of freedom is coming to a halt. Maybe it's what needs to happen to wake people up. But the history won't reflect the truth as history is written by the victors. So sad.

    Hang in there,

  • @carroll , jeez between you and renee, depression city. good lyrics, but depressing as hell.

Excellent lyrics, would be interested to see it as a song

  • Well that's got a real fire and brimstone feel to it. Dark lyrics.

    For the faith of Allah

    They’ll sacrifice it all.

I'll let that pass. Be aware however that whilst praising your own religion is fine on TSF, attacking someone else's is not. That's about as close as you can expect to come without your song being removed.

  • It is not condemning one religion. Religion has been a source of war for as far as written history goes back. It’s the atom bomb man must survive.

Excellent lyrics, Carol. These are dark times we're living in. Your lyrics have a Dylan feel to them.

I found this to be an excellent lyric. If "those who won't learn history are doomed to repeat it," your song could help avoid "repeating history." BUT. . . alas, mere words will not persuade many people to learn (and learn from) history. Your lyric is reminiscent of one I wrote in both tone and content. I called it "Something Wicked This Way Comes," and (like your lyric) it quotes history and warns against repeating it.

Also (like yours) mere words will not persuade many people to learn.

I posted that "Something Wicked This Way Comes", but somehow posted it to the "general discussion" category. I'll repost later in the right place, but for now, if you wish to see it, it's in the General Discussion location.

As a member of the forum, I think there is a fine distinction to be made. Opinions (even opinions on religion and politics) really should be allowed INSIDE THE LYRIC. Not so much in the comments section. It's important to allow art to express freedom of speech. Even the "as long as it remains respectful" concept has be far more stringently enforced in the comments about a lyric as in the lyric itself. I'm not demanding that it should be that way. Just one member expressing one opinion about it. I deeply appreciate your efforts at keeping this forum going and working.

In general I agree with that. There's plenty of things I don't agree with that I'm happy to see posted. People can then comment on them as they see fit, provided it's done in a reasonable manner. I don't censor things lightly, and when in doubt, I don't. In terms of religious intolerance, it's one I take a harder line on. It's a subject that's intense, personal and deeply felt by many people. I want people to feel comfortable in their faith, whatever that is, on the site. I understand where you are coming from, but that isn't the rule for this forum. You can praise Jesus, Allah, Buddha or atheism or any other religious viewpoint. Attack someone else's faith and that post is coming down as soon as I see it.
