The Good Lord Said

I fell from grace
On a winter's day
I fell to my knees
And began to pray

Lord take me soon
I wanna end it now
I just kept praying
Please show me how

(Chorus 1)
Then the Good Lord said
Son, take my hand
I'll lead the way
To the Promised Land”

Then a shining light
Lit up my way
My eyes were opened
To Judgement Day

As I strolled along
I realised
To hear that voice
I was so surprised

(Chorus 2)
Then the Good Lord said
Son, take my hand
Just come with me
To the Promised land”

I stood in awe
At what I'd seen
This place of peace
Still and serene

Then my name was called
From close on by
It came from nowhere
Just outa' the sky

(Chorus 3)
Then the Good Lord said
Son, take my hand
You are at rest now
Here's the promised Land”
The Good Lord said
Son, take my hand
You are at rest now
You're in the promised Land”

Pretty cool, John. Might have been a good fit for the 'Gospel' database. One thing strikes me about the story. You say 'fell from grace,' and then 'take me soon, I want to end it now.' Not sure how you mean that.

Hi Janke,

Thanks for your comments. I was in two minds as to whether this should have gone in the gospel section: maybe it should have.

Falling from grace in this instance means that the person has recognised that his time is up (for whatever reason). This is a certainty. "I wanna end it now" means that there's no point in maintaining a mortal connection when the next is beckoning. You have been called and it is your time. This is by no means a suicide note or message it's simply a recognition of what we can expect or at least what this person is expecting and hoping for.

I hope that made sense.

Hey John, I went ahead and moved it to Gospel Lyrics.

John, thanks for the reply. My conundrum continues to be the conflict with 'fall from grace' and 'end it now.' For me, if I had fallen from grace, I would not want to end it until I was reconciled. Know what I mean? So I would suggest a verse something like:

I fell from grace
On a winter's day
Down on my knees (avoid repetition of the word 'fell')
And began to pray

Lord I'm a fool
I know that now
I just kept praying
Please show me how

Just my thoughts for what it's worth. I surely like the feel of the piece from reading it.

Hi Janke.
With your permission, I think I'll borrow those words.
The first stanza now looks right and the second
has softened any misconceptions.

Many thanks.

You make it sound like a real religious experience rather than something made up. Did it happen this way?
