She's a complicated woman
Many moods at the same time
Laughter tinged with ancient sorrow
Brooding on tomorrows yet to come

It's a complicated romance
As we unwrap each other's lives
Cautiously revealing all the truths
We've been concealing in in our lies

And if it takes a lifetime
To understand her ways
Oh what a perfect lifetime!
There is no other way that I
Would rather spend my days

<break>

She's a complicated mystery
Unraveling gradually in time
Languidly in her own fashion
Sharing all the passions of her mind

And if it takes a lifetime
To understand her ways
Oh what a perfect lifetime!
There is no other way that I
Would rather spend my days

Wow Owen, this is so good. The lyrics are well written and the music is very pretty. Are you playing the piano? That is my favorite part.

I love these lines:

"And if it takes a lifetime
To understand her ways
Oh what a perfect lifetime!"

Thanks Andrea! No I'm not playing the piano. It's a solo generated using "Band in a Box" software. It creates a midi file for you in a nominated style based on chords you give it, then somewhat randomly creates notes. I then edit the heck out of it, throwing away 80% and modifying the rest. Which works fine for this sort of accompaniment that fades in and out. The sax solo is done the same way, but in a different style.

Actually it's not that hard. Everything looks tricky the first time, but BIAB is pretty friendly, and MIDI editing is just moving things around with a mouse or hitting the delete key. The biggest issue with BIAB is the price - it's good, but it's not cheap.

Sounds intriguing - how much are we talking? We just purchased Logic pro or LogicX pro for my son. I have not tried to use nay of it yet. Do you know if this does the same?

It depends on what package you buy. The power of the software is being able to produce a song in a range of different styles, so the more styles you buy the more it costs. The minimum is $129 USD and the max is $669 USD.
You can get more details here:

Hey Owen,
I just listened to your track and read the lyrics. Well done! I specially like how you turn from the verses to the chorus. With the jazz piano in the „background“ it feels very nice. The chorus has so great lines. Just wondering if it’s possible to make the intro a little shorter. To me it seems to be a little to much.
Hope I could have been helpful!
RK

Thanks for the feedback! I can certainly see it being too long for many people.

There are options there.
Pulling a couple of seconds off would be easy, just starting the vocal a couple of bars early. But not sure that would make any significant change.
Beyond that starts to require structural changes. The switch from picked to strummed guitar kind of "resets" the intro.
Dropping one or the other of those is an option but I'm not keen to do that. I like bookending the song with the picked part, but it doesn't lend itself to going directly into the main vocal over the strumming.

I think unless I come up with another option again, I'll leave it as is for now.

Thanks for checking it out Sam!
Yes, I'm getting good use out of BIAB lately. That piano accompaniment fits well with a lot of my stuff.

This an awesome track Owen. The intro blew me away before you even got started! I don't care how you created the piano and sax parts..they sound really good. There's no sin in using technology to create good music. Your vocal is good and you have a distinctive approach to the guitar which fits very nicely here. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this one.:)

'Fraid I don't understand the question.

I would say that vocals are never going to be my strong point. If I had the money, I would pay someone else to sing them for me, but since I don't, I do my best so people can at least get an idea of how they should be sung.

No, no disrespect there. I wasn't thinking that.
I just literally didn't understand what you were asking with "Okay you're trying to sing lyrics like what". And the link didn't help me figure it out.

Also, negative comments about the song/lyric/vocals/etc are perfectly valid anyway. Just not about people.
