Wonder why they call them well drinks, when I ain’t better
And the double shots don’t kill me, they only open up old wounds
I’d like to know that man there in the mirror
Cause if he likes to bet I know, you’ll be coming round soon

I’m stuck here on a memory carousel
A never ending trip aboard this getting nowhere hell
Our ups and downs come round and round, it’s an awful place to dwell
I’m stuck here on a memory carousel

I haven’t seen you around town since you left me
But you’re there like a shadow when, the neon lights come on
Till I can reminisce without the wish, that you’ll be coming home
I have to live, with the fact, that I’m as good as gone

I’m stuck here on a memory carousel
A never ending trip aboard this getting nowhere hell
Our ups and downs come round and round, it’s an awful place to dwell
I’m stuck here on a memory carousel

This ride I’m on’s been anything but easy
I wish by now I would have gotten off
While Mary goes round, painting up the town
I wish my love would fade, if it isn’t gonna stop

I’m stuck here on a memory carousel
A never ending trip aboard this getting nowhere hell
Our ups and downs come round and round, it’s an awful place to dwell
I’m stuck here on a memory carousel

I’m stuck here on a memory carousel

Well Mike... You did it again! Two verses, three choruses and a bridge; and everything comes out sweet. Really like V2 and the bridge. We need to cherish our memories so they keep coming around, no matter how bittersweet. Very well written.

Charles

Super sad from start to finish. I can totally picture this poor guy wallowing in his sorrow at the bar. It should make a fine country song.

I like the carousel metaphor - it's timeless and fits well here.

Chorus feels like the strong point to me (as it should!).
"I'm not amused" feels a bit off though. I'd have suggested "getting nowhere" but of course you used that in the line before! Lost in circles or more like that maybe?

I really like this line:
But you’re there like a shadow when, the neon lights come on

and this one captures something essential too:
I wish my love would fade, if it isn’t gonna stop

Thanks Andrea, if you can picture it than I’m pretty happy that it painted that picture.
That’s kind of funny Owen, I originally had several different choices for the I’m not amused line and settled on that one. That was the toughest line in the lyric for me to decide on. I can definitely revisit that. I also had it’s something I can’t quell, but figured some would not know the meaning, or since I fell beneath your spell. Not sure if either is any better. Thanks for looking.
