Goodbye old year you've been a dear
but I'll never see you again
as fireworks light the night
I hear the bells of big ben

around the world they celebrate
and dance the night away
say goodbye to the old
and the dawning of a new day

another year been and gone
new dreams lie ahead
big hopes for the future
in words left unsaid

so out with the old
and in with the new
as we hope for better
in all that we do

Goodbye old year you've been a dear
but I'll never see you again
as fireworks light the night
I hear the bells of big ben

Writing a New Year's song is a good idea. There's plenty of Christmas songs, but less for New Year's Eve.

This one feels a little bland to me. Perhaps look for a slant on the new year to give it a stronger direction or more emotion?

It has a definite English flavor to it with the Big Ben reference and the 'you've been a dear' phrase. Not a bad thing, just interesting to note.

Alan, I think it’s a start. Currently it reads a bit like a poem to me. That being said I think you have a base to work from. Also, like Owen mentioned, it’s probably a fairly ignored holiday musically. Good luck with it.
