Awash in glory

Inspired by @HummerWisdom, well partly.. but then I thought from the perspective of the one being crucified..

Sensitive Topic: I understand there will be others with alternative views and I respect those, but I am only looking for feedback on the song itself, not a debate on the topic. Please respect my wishes.

[Verse 1]

Mist somberly weeps from foreboding gray clouds

We plod and trod to where only white doves die

Sorrowful despair wails echoes thru dusty valleys

Shrills from waking vultures circling darken skies

[Verse 2]

I traverse the shadowed valley, mind, body and soul

Weighted by shackles, burdens, demons, inner turmoil

And the splintered cross I bear tears at my flesh

Healed by bathing in still waters and anointed oils

[Chorus]

Awash in the warm light of your glory

Bearing witness to the horror before me

A forlorn essence bound to wood by steel

Words cannot express the emotions I feel

[Verse 3]

Nails piercing skin bleeds on cold wood I lie

Dreams of golden chalices and valleys of green

Fill my mind, fluid motions and suspended time

My body hangs heavy, my mind transforms serene.

[Bridge]

Angry bearing snarling teeth scattering mournful flocks

Once barren lands now soaked from rivers flowing tears

As the moment draws close and the candlelight dims

Thy rod and staff, thy comfort from all evil and fears

[Outro]

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in paths

Of righteousness for his name's sake.

Goodness and mercy shall follow me always.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

@sidshovel - thanks sid.. for being agnostic and not really knowing the bible at all, it's fortunate for pop music to have biblical references.. The shadowed valley is - though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, which I remembered from the coolio song - gangsta's paradise . and the trinity (the repeating of the last 3 lines), father, son and holy ghost is used in a song by ministry. I also incorporated other sections from psalm 23 in there :)

First off, I like it a lot! A bit abstract to me so I had to listen and read several times, and every time I did, I heard more being said than the time before. It kinda gives me a Book of Revelations feel with the metaphors and symbolisms. Not long ago I had the idea to do something based on Romas 12, this may have inspired me to pick that idea back up. Really like this Bill, nice work.

  • @Barry , thanks for the comment.. essentially, it's Jesus's crucifixion with a mix of psalms 23.

  • Your certainly a poetic machine Bill , Alot to absorb in this

    Sounds great man

  • @ElvisNash - Thanks Elvis.

  • There's a lot of passion bound up in these lyrics (sorry for the pun but it felt like the right word).

I particularly like: "A forlorn essence bound to wood by steel"

And those last lines give a building sense of approaching terror to me.

    A powerful piece.

  • @RainyDayMan - i emotionally put myself in the position of being crucified. Thanks for the comment Owen, I really appreciate it
