Don't Touch Our Souls

Here are the lyrics for the new song I'm currently working on. Still fine-tuning the melody, so I will have to post that later.

"DON'T TOUCH OUR SOULS"

VERSE 1:

Well it keeps on getting harder and harder,

to see the forest for the trees.

And the more time we spend,

trying to make the world make sense?

It’s just driving us over the edge!

VERSE 2:

And there’s only so much we can take now,

before the cracks start to take their toll.

And the more we submit,

well we just end up with shit,

but we can’t let them bring us down!

CHORUS:

Well they can break our bloody hearts!

We’ll bear it!

Steal the roofs from over our heads?

They own them!

Bleed dry all our veins?

No problem!

Just don’t touch our souls!

Don’t touch our so-ou-uls!

Don’t touch our so-ou-uls!

Don’t touch our so-ou-uls!

Don’t touch our souls…

VERSE 3:

Well it keeps on getting harder and harder,

to believe that we’ve sunken this low.

Now the mountains we’ve climbed,

just drive deeper the knife,

and it feels like we’re losing control!

VERSE 4:

And there’s only so much one can give now,

before the soul of a man starts to die.

And we work our whole lives

to be crushed within the mines,

of a system that’s seeming to thrive!

BRIDGE:

And it’s getting really hard to see it,

how we’re ever going to make it through,

but we just got to keep on fighting until the fight is through!

BRIDGE:

And it’s getting really hard to see it,

how we’re ever going to make it through,

but we just got to keep on fighting until the fight is through!

CHORUS / OUTRO:

Well they can break our bloody hearts!

We’ll bear it!

Steal the roofs from over our heads?

They own them!

Bleed dry all our veins?

No problem!

Just don’t touch our souls!

Don’t touch our so-ou-uls!

Don’t touch our so-ou-uls!

Don’t touch our so-ou-uls!

Don’t touch our souls…

  • The passion of the lyric definitely reads like an anthem, or something to rile up a crowd before storming the gates! Looking forward to hearing what you do with the melody, instrumentation, etc.

  • @schmalex - that's a long song by today's standards. do you need the double bridge and chorus? to me it would sound, better if you just repeated don't touch or souls and fade out

    Thanks for your comments @mattyoung / @bhengen

I have just output the composition / Musescore MIDI output to Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/user-547160600/wont-break-my-soul-musescore

I have made some updates to the lyrics to make it a little more personal sounding, including updating the title to "Won't Break My Soul". It currently clocks in at just under 4 minutes, but it could be shortened by removing the final bridge / chorus if needed:

    “WON’T BREAK MY SOUL”

    VERSE 1:

Well it keeps gettin’ harder and harder,

just to see the forest for the trees.

And the more time I spend

tryn’ to make the world make sense,

is just driving me over the edge!

    VERSE 2:

And there’s only so much I can take now,

before the cracks start to take their toll.

    And each time I submit,

just makes me want to quit,

but I cannot let them bring me down!

    CHORUS:

Well they can break my bloody bones!

    I’ll bear it!

Steal the roof from over my head?

    They own it!

Wanna bleed dry all my veins?

    They’re welcome!

But they just won’t break my soul!

    Won’t break my so-ou-ul!

    Won’t break my so-ou-ul!

    Won’t break my so-ou-ul!

    Won’t break my soul!

    VERSE 3:

And it keeps getting harder and harder,

to believe that we’ve fallen so far.

Now the mountains that we’d claimed

    seem so far now away,

and it feels like we’re losing the fight!

    VERSE 4:

But there’s only so much one can give now,

before the soul of a man starts to die.

And you work away your life

just to die within the mines,

of a system that seems to thrive!

    BRIDGE:

And it’s getting really hard to see it,

how we’re ever going to make it through.

But we just got to keep on fighting!

    Fighting the fight anew!

    BRIDGE:

And it’s getting really hard to see it,

how we’re ever going to make it through.

But we just got to keep on fighting!

    Fighting the fight anew!

    CHORUS / OUTRO:

Well they can break my bloody bones!

    I’ll bear it!

Steal the roof from over my head?

    They own it!

Wanna bleed dry all my veins?

    They’re welcome!

But they just won’t break my soul!

    Won’t break my so-ou-ul!

    Won’t break my so-ou-ul!

    Won’t break my so-ou-ul!

    Won’t break my soul!
