I Lose People, I Lose Myself

If you've watched "Fear The Walking Dead", you'll know where this title came from. Didn't strike me as a song when it was first introduced but a few seasons later in the series. Anyway, any feedback is appreciated. Where else could I have gone with it? I'm thinking, folk song.

I LOSE PEOPLE, I LOSE MYSELF
The first person I lost
Was my mother
The State took us from her
Me and my brother
The second person I lost
Was my father
The wagon, he fell off
One too many times
[Chorus]
I lose people
I lose myself
Pieces of my heart
Upon a shelf
And there have been many
Friends who’ve come and gone
Some are still living
Others have passed on
And there are those
That I have run from
Getting too close
Like too close to the sun
[Chorus]
I lose people
I lose myself
Pieces of my heart
Upon a shelf
[Instrumental]
[Bridge]
Now, my brother, I haven’t spoken with in over two years
He refuses to speak with me and that hurts like hell
[Chorus]
I lose people
I lose myself
Pieces of my heart
Upon a shelf
[Chorus]
I lose people
I lose myself
Pieces of my heart
Upon a shelf

Nice song Renee, good storyline, well told.
Where to go with it, listen to:
Little Angel, Little Brother. by Lucinda Williams for some direction.

Yeah, and now I wonder if I should try an' write a story song around my brother because of ALL the people I've lost, he hurts the most; more than likely because we were so close growing up and he's the only blood I have left and he's still alive (as far as I know).
Thank you, Sid for your assistance.
Truly,
hummer (has lost her wisdom) 🤣

Pretty deep stuff Renee. Your voice works well with the mood. I like the story, love the tune. Maybe you should stay a little deep for a few songs?

That's a heavy one, @HummerWisdom. It sounds honest and sensitive, and to me those two elements get a song 90% of the way there. Works really well as a solo picked guitar piece as you've presented it.

Thank you, guys! You ROCK!
Still tweaking and trying to come up with a better Bridge, staying with the subject; my brother.
Write on,
