"A Song That Sounds Blue"
Here's one where I had written the chorus back in 1989, and ended up writing the verses in one night, some 20 years later.
Hope you all like it.
"A Song That Sounds Blue"
Words & Music by Tom Tognaci
Two lovers face to face, hoping they’ll soon
Share a lovers’ embrace under the moon
Two souls set adrift, wandering the stars
And I’m begging you, I’m begging you, I’m begging you
Don’t fall asleep, even though I’m gone
Leave a little light in your heart turned on
Oooo babe, I think of you
Whenever I play a song that sounds blue
Across the universe, beyond the stars
Two lonely hearts traverse, midst the quasars
Two souls set adrift, two souls such as ours
And I’m calling you, I’m calling you, I’m calling you
Don’t fall asleep, even though I’m gone
Leave a little light in your heart turned on
Oooo babe, I’m hoping you too
Can feel the sway of a song that sounds blue

As always. . . it's an outstanding song. There is a "reliable excellence" to all of your songs.

Funny how you can have an idea but do nothing with it at the time. 20 years on and it still has to be done. I have one or two like that.
Anyway, in this case it was well worth the wait. I love this track. I'm in awe of your gritty vocals here and that's some guitar solo - very tasteful.
Yes, I really enjoyed this. No crits from me😀

Thanks, H... I really do appreciate it!
And I can only wish to sing and play like that. Actually, it's one of my easier songs to play. The original is OK... but if I had done it in a real studio, I might have come closer to what this cover is bringing.
Yeah... I wrote the chorus while I was in the middle of a break-up. Later, I thought to write the verses around Jesus at Gethsemane.. but years later decided on an easier route. 😉

This is a great song - you should play in SUNO a little with it - I hear Journey in this song with additional production - really fantastic and the makings of a hit song

Very nice Tom! If it was mine, I'd put in 8 bars or so of instrumental after Chorus 1, and maybe shorten the final instrumental if you need to.

Thanks, guys. This cover is very close to how I recorded it originally in 2009. I would love to simply use this as a demo for any killer bands out there who are looking for something to record. I would be elated if, say Journey, got back together and wanted to do this song. It should go without saying, but I would give them a free rein with however they would want to arrange and perform my song.
Overall, this cover is the best representation of my musical intentions for this.
Thanks, again,
-T
