Grow a Sense of Humor

https://suno.com/song/0ecf4d11-e92e-498e-ba69-d92bece0591c

Verse 1

I tried to stack it to the ceiling

Like them boys on TV

Shiny boots and borrowed money

Talkin’ ’bout prosperity

But the bills came knockin’ louder

Than the jukebox in this room

Turns out interest grows faster

Than corn in June

Chorus

If ya can’t grow a big bank account

Grow a sense of humor instead

If the wolf’s at the door every month

Offer him coffee and bread

I ain’t rich but I ain’t bitter

That’s a profit I understand

If you can’t grow dollars in the dirt

Grow a laugh like a stubborn man

Verse 2

My truck’s held together

With duct tape and prayer

Got a shoulder that pops

Like a county fair

IRS knows my first name

Doctor does too

But I still wake up smilin’

Like I’ve got nothin’ to lose

Chorus

If ya can’t grow a big bank account

Grow a sense of humor instead

If the wolf’s at the door every month

Offer him coffee and bread

I ain’t rich but I ain’t bitter

That’s a profit I understand

If you can’t grow dollars in the dirt

Grow a laugh like a stubborn man

Bridge (half-spoken outlaw sermon)

Seen men with money

Die mad at the sky

Seen broke old cowboys

Outlive ’em just fine

You can’t deposit pride

You can’t withdraw grace

But you can grin at the devil

To his face

Final Chorus (lift)

If ya can’t grow a big bank account

Grow a story they’ll all repeat

If the world keeps shakin’ you down

Stay stubborn on your feet

I ain’t rich but I ain’t ruined

And that’s wealth where I stand

If you can’t grow dollars in the dirt

Grow a laugh… like a free man

I had so much fun reading your lyrics, it's such a relatable portrait of so many people!!! There are some profound lines

Turns out interest grows faster Than corn in June

A fierce portrait, like a wolf!!!! laughter is good for the stomach... The poor? They have nothing to lose, well, maybe their dignity, but that's not a problem because few people have it, so what are they going to lose?

I dunno . I just love humor so wrote about it , but you need contrast, why the drama is in the song. Great comedians make fun of everything . it's a release for the crazy world we live in .

  • I like how this one pokes its tongue out at the world.

Yeah we all need a sense of humour, and I like how that's positioned as a man's strength.

    I ain’t rich but I ain’t bitter

    That’s a profit I understand

I like those lines. Especially how "bitter" follows "coffee" in the previous lines.

  • Yeah we all need a sense of humour, pretty much.... why Wanda Sykes does so well and Bill Burr

  • Well I need a sense of humor (humour) just living in this skin!! No, I'm not rich either..never thought I would be.

I love the sentiments here and, as usual, it's a great song. Like @bhengen you're making the most of this technology because, in your case, it still sounds very much you. There you go, I don't hate AI. It's just not for me, but that doesn't make it wrong. To be honest I'm coming to see it's potential so who knows?

    A great track😀
