The Boy on the Boardwalk
The Susie Almeida Septet return with another song from their 1962 bossa nova album. This one is a rewrite of my song "The Girl on the Boardwalk”, basically just gender flipped. I decided not to give Suno my original melody and let it create its own. As always, the fluff section below is completely made up by me.

[verse 1]
He smiles as I pass by
Gazes out to the morning sky
For a moment I thought I saw
a teardrop in his eye
[verse 2]
His hair is golden brown
His legs always dangling down
From the boardwalk where he sits
In the lonely part of town
[bridge]
The boy on the boardwalk
is always in my dreams
I know he must be
more than he seems
[verse 3]
How easy it would be
To give him company
But to take that first step
Would take a braver soul than me
[trumpet solo]
[bridge]
The boy on the boardwalk
is always in my dreams
I know he must be
more than he seems
[verse 3]
Finally came the day
I’d found the words to say
But the boy on the boardwalk
had gone away
[coda]
He’s gone away
[instrumental outro]

Fluff
Recording date: June 18th, 1962
Recorded by: The Susie Almeida Septet
Track info: “On the second day of recording for the album, we started with The Boy on the Boardwalk. There was always a mystique about that one. I think Susie rather liked singing it,” saxophonist Gil Rodriguez recalled in a 1987 interview on the 25th anniversary of the band’s debut album. “You had to hear her perform it on stage, or on the LP. The CD distorts her voice, it sounds too mechanical,” drummer Alberto Santos opined, getting nods and murmurs of approval from the others. Nevertheless, all of the men agreed that the soothing spirit of Susie’s voice comes across in any medium. Ms. Almeida, modest as ever, smiled with a blush and said they were a septet for a reason. “My piano playing would’ve chased the audience out in record time if I’d had to accompany myself”, she recalled gleefully, to laughs from the others.”
The group:
Vocal: Susie Almeida
Saxophone: Gil Rodriguez
Trumpet: Jose Ribeiro
Bass: Leon Isla
Piano: Marco Filipe
Acoustic guitar: Eduardo da Silva
Drums: Alberto Santos

Suno's done very well with it. Amazing how it can get breathiness into the vocal now.
Gender switch seems to work fine. Nothing there that felt out of kilter in the slightest.
Good stuff!

@RainyDayMan The crazy thing is, I didn’t even ask for breathiness, I think Suno just did that on its own because I had bossa nova and smooth jazz in the style box. It really does pick up on singing styles for different genres so well now. Glad you liked it!!
@richmusic Thanks for listening, glad you enjoyed! 🙂
@ElvisNash I wish they were real, but sadly, they’re only in my mind. Suno has definitely come a long way. When I first heard AI music like 2-3 years ago, no way did I ever think it was going to sound this realistic this fast.

Hey y’all, I saw a lot of activity and decided to see what’s up. First of all, I’m so sorry if I have misled anyone here. I did mention it at the top but I usually make it more clear, the lyrics are mine, but the vocal is from Suno. I am most definitely a male with an okay-ish singing voice. I have been very busy with classes over these last few months and as a result, recording my own stuff has been next to impossible due to how constantly exhausted and worn out I feel. AI gives me an outlet to experiment with genres and continue to write lyrics during this time so that’s what I have been posting a lot of recently. Again though, I apologize to anyone who might have gotten the wrong idea and I will make sure to make it more clear going forward.

I know you're being a bit tongue-in-cheek, but regardless of the genre or venue, people still want to see live performances. They want to go to their local bar, forget about their shit day, grab some beers and immerse themselves in your playing.

or maybe the love, of turning life experience into a story, and then marrying it to music, with a guitar ...yeah you know what I mean
