They don't write them like this anymore?????
Is anyone today writing songs that are so simple, so sparse, and yet so emotionally impactful as this song by Eugene Oregon native Tim Hardin in the sixties? Tims two best songs were "Don't Make Promises (you can't keep" which was covered by 3 Dog Night, and "Reason to Believe" which was covered by Rod Stewart.
But this one is also a one of a kind song. I just love it and wish I could do something this simple and emotional. Stoneflowers comes closest to this kind of music on our site.

One of many talented writers/musicians in the 60s who destroyed themselves with "sex, drugs, and rock and roll."

Are you trying to tell me that sex won't kill you? Aren't you the guy that wrote "find something you like and let it kill you?" :o)

From 1933, this is another lost old simple, repetetive, and emotional song. I'd never heard it before. I'm blown away.

Jeez buddy I'm humbled by the comparison, tanks. I'll be posting some tunes coming up with pro flute, fiddle/violin, etc. Always loved his stuff. But yeah the drugs killed him in 1980.

old people always say they don't make music like they used to. This will happen in the year 10,000 CE.

I think that simple, underproduced songs are both timeless AND seldom done anymore. I wasn't suggesting that these were 'better' than what is being done now. . . just different. And are you suggesting I'm old? I'm only 72. That's not . . . waitaminnit. It might actually BE old.
