Wisdom
@Hardtwistmusic I changed a few words and added kind of a sweet outro. Thanks for the great story line and meaningful lyrics...Here tis:
Soudcloud and The Forum won't let me post the lyrics with syncopated chords, says it too long. If you want to see those chords let me know I'll post them somewhere else.
There have been times when I thought I knew something
All too often...I turned out wrong, all wrong
When I was younger I used to be smarter.
When I was younger I knew everything.
They say that time might bring us wisdom
But are we ready for what wisdom might bring.
You can’t always say where wisdom resides.
It don’t come and go like the wind or the tide.
I won’t be found in a desperate search.
But hell you might find it in a bar or a church.
It might come if we make ourselves ready.
It won’t come unwelcome to us.
We say we want wisdom and no doubt we do.
But sometimes we just throw her under the bus
There have been times when I thought I knew something
Hell all too often...I turned out wrong, all wrong
Wisdom’s elusive, and it don’t care.
Some believe wisdom can only be shared.
And some believe wisdom is there for the taking.
But that’s not her burden to bear.
You can’t always say where wisdom resides.
It don’t come and go like the wind or the tide.
I won’t be found in a desperate search.
But hell you might find it in a bar or a church.
Wisdom can overcome bias and hatred.
It ain’t something you borrow buy or lease.
It might be just around the next corner.
Waiting to bring serenity and peace.
Doesn’t cost money, but it never comes cheap.
Share it come on and share it with me
Share it come on and share it with me
Cuz I’m all wrong

Has a hey joe kind of vibe to it. a simple drum and upright bass would add some depth, but it's great as is..

That might lose the free form passion of your guitar playing and vocals.

Nice version! Now we need to hear the alternative :)

Wouldn't do me any good to see the chords. I'm not musician enough to utilize them. I loved what you did with this. In a couple of weeks, if this is on your Soundcloud account, I'll repost it to my account and put both of the versions on together. . . with your permission of course.

Interesting comment. On my version of this, a plucked upright bass sets the tempo, and there is a little bit of upright bass also. I used African drums if I remember right.

Doesn't need to be an 'alternative.' There's no reason it has to be one OR the other. It can be one AND the other. Two songs sharing a lyric is not unheard of. Bands used to do it occasionally on records. . . back when there were still records.

I'd be interested in hearing your version

It will be a couple of weeks before I post my version of this to my Soundcloud account. It takes that long and a lot of listens to be sure it belongs on the account. When it does go on the account, I'll let you know it's there. I'm pretty sure I'll post it, but it just takes time. Some songs I write grow on me, and some don't.

Okay so I made a comment on the original lyrics post before seeing that someone had already recorded a version, and yeah, I definitely could see why some of the words needed to be moved around and rearranged. Most of it worked just fine though, and it fits perfectly with the old time blues rock progression. I think it works with the stripped down guitar + voice combo as well. It could work with a band (I can almost hear an electric guitar playing that groove along with the acoustic), but it sounds great as is too. Well done to both of y'all, that's a great match of composer and performer there!
