“Fair-Weather Friends”

The songbird sings in the warm summer sun
Its song is sweet and endearing
But when it has sung the last note on its tongue
It flies away, disappearing
For oh, the sun may stop shining
And oh, the snow falls cold
And oh, that winter’s wind may throw
A tantrum to behold
You’ll hold my hand, and that’s all right by me
It’s all been fine and fair sailing
You smile and I nod, and we always agree
But will it go without failing?
For oh, the sky may turn bitter
And oh, the rain may come
And yes, that devil wind may send
Those clouds to block the sun
All those fair-weather friends, they’ll up and run, like the birds that leave the trees
While the songbird chases the summer sun; I’ll be left behind to freeze
Left behind to freeze
Now,
Let it be known that this story I’ve told
Was once first penned a cappella
But when a wild storm brewed and its big thunder rolled
You up and shared your umbrella
Oh, how the sky had opened
With a trumpet’s golden sound
The dark clouds went their separate ways
And a true-blue friend was found
A true-blue friend was found
All those fair-weather friends, they’ll up and run, like the birds that leave the trees
While the songbird chases the summer sun; I’ll be chasing you on skis
In the frosty mountain breeze

The song and melody were very artistic. I like the sound effects of the birds, rain, trumpet.
There were a few forced lines in the lyrics that I didn't quite understand. But again, it's art, it's not always meant to be understood by others.
The song made me feel good and that's what I love about it.
Thanks for sharing and I can't wait to hear more.

Nice to see the happy ending, I wasn't sure which way this one was going!
I like the birdsong at the start, not sure it needs the effects through the rest of the song though.
This line felt very slightly cramped: "For oh, the sky may turn bitter". Maybe: "Oh when, the sky turns bitter", or maybe just re-sing it as is even.
Good song with a clear message. Enjoyed my listen!

Thanks!
Thank you... much appreciated!
I'm glad you like it...... which line didn't you understand? 😊
Thanks, Rainy.... I like the slight "cumberness" of those lines within the melody 🙂

Glad you're doing something "organic", not Ai. Kinda Willy Nelson like.

Hey Tom
Sounds like something Woodie Guthrie might have wrote
I'm not a big fan of the background birds , but it works
Good job

I don't do AI.... others have covered my songs, but it's not me. thanks for listening. this was just a moment of fun.... something different to keep "the juices" flowing.
Hi Elvis.... the birds are great!!! The Beatles used birds.... it's good enough for me. Didn't they sound just "sweet and endearing"?😁
