Very nice old time folk song, Polly. Musically, the chorus is pretty much the same as the verse, but that's OK in this type of song. I enjoyed listening.
I was struck by the contrast between the happy message and the sad chords at the end of the lines. I'm not saying that can't work. In fact, this song reminds me very much of "The Swiimming Song" by Kate & Anna McGarrigle, which does the same thing with those minor chords. It's performed more up tempo of course.

Thanks for the comments! Well, even though the song could be considered happy, I think there is a lot of sadness to it also. It says "I still get one more ride," implying the happiness won't last too long. Therefore the minor chord. 😪

Very traditional format, and nothing wrong with that!
I like the feeling of being given one more shot at happiness before the end.
There's a few too many "this old life"s in there for me, but that's a personal preference. It's the title and hook, so understandable. I feel like they could be in either the verse or chorus but maybe not both.
But overall I think it holds up well.

Thanks! I do like traditional sounding songs, although I have been trying to write various styles lately. This one is very traditional/country, which is I admit my favorite style, so I was happy to write this.
Yes, it is a one more shot idea, which makes it both happy and sad at the same time. It kind of relates to what I have been experiencing, so it does come straight from the heart.

This style is going well for the leta, what times, what years and what everything!!! The lyrics have caught my attention, they have great lines, deep and that many or almost all of us can perceive with total empathy!!! Life and its surprises that they take from us and put on dresses of happy or sad colors depending on the side that corresponds... It is almost like a mirror and its possible sides.
