I think the chorus is very strong, and that's as it should be.
Feels like the song would work well with or without the twist in the tail. But it carries an emotional punch and makes you reevaluate the earlier verses.
The AI's given it a fairly modern styling, but I can imagine this as a more traditional country waltz too.
