Let Boys Be Boys, Girls Be Girls

Hello Songsters! Isn't it wonderful that we can say practically anything we want to in song? That said, thought I'd take a stab at a controversial subject of which shouldn't be controversial whatsoever. That said, no disrespect; just my take on a sticky situation...in a light and whimsical way.
As I still have a frog in my throat at times and my left eye has been bothering me (a couple of weeks ago, it was my right eye) (too much screen-time, my guess), and GETTING OLD SUCKS! Anyhow, I did the best I could singing this; needs to be re-sung, re-played (like mostly all or 'em!)
Also, while I tried to deviate verse chords for chorus, it kept going back to using the same chords; sorry. I suppose, I could try harder.
I hope this tune brings a chuckle or two no matter which side of the fence you sit on,
Respectfully,
Renee

LET BOYS BE BOYS, GIRLS BE GIRLS
Do-do, do, Do-do, do, Do-do, do, Do-do,do
[Verse 1]
Do boys still carry girls’ books?
I gotta believe it’s still true
Like I believe God knew what He was doin’
When He created pink and blue
[Chorus]
Let boys be boys, girls be girls
Riding merrily the tilt-a-whirl
Let boys be boys, girls be girls
And we’ll continue to do God’s will propagating this world
[Verse 2]
An’ sometimes gettin’ a black eye
Is worth it when right ain’t wrong
No boy wants to be called ‘Nancy’
And girls like boys brave an’ strong
[Chorus]
Let boys be boys, girls be girls
Riding merrily the tilt-a-whirl
Let boys be boys, girls be girls
And we’ll continue to do God’s will propagating this world
Do-do-do-do, do, do-do-do-do, do
[Verse 3]
Bakin’ cookies isn’t for all girls
That ol’ Rambler, when she needed fixin’
I’d hand Dad screwdrivers and wrenches
Ain’t no contradictin’
[Chorus]
Let boys be boys, girls be girls
Riding merrily the tilt-a-whirl
Let boys be boys, girls be girls
And we’ll continue to do God’s will propagating this world
Do-do-do-do, do, do-do-do-do, do
[Chorus]
Let boys be boys, girls be girls
Riding merrily the tilt-a-whirl
Let boys be boys, girls be girls
And we’ll continue to do God’s will propagating this world, do-do, do-do, do-do….ain’t no Adam and Steve, just Adam and Eve….
[Chorus]
Let boys be boys, girls be girls
Riding merrily the tilt-a-whirl
Let boys be boys, girls be girls
And we’ll continue to do God’s will propagating this world
[Verse 1/Return]
Do boys still carry girls’ books?
I gotta believe it’s still true
Like I believe God knew what He was doin’
When He created pink and blue, ooh-ooh-ooh

@HummerWisdom - great lyrics. one could argue we are witnessing a form of evolution , or freedom of expression ;)

Cool song Renee , it might not be political correct in 2025 . But its a good song

I agree with the song Renee and freedom of speech , I also think getting old sucks I just past 3/4 of a century old , now that’s old !1
-
Depends who she plays it for , like the transgender rights , Thats a pretty hot topic . Freedom of speech comes with a price tag on taking the heat

@ElvisNash I'll probably only ever play it for you guys. I pretty much knew you could take it....or leave it!

I'm thinking political climate on transgenders . You must be aware of that even in Tenn on relating to a wider audience . I'm sure conservatives would agree with your song . Thats freedom of speech if you like the double edge sword on songs like this .
1 -
@ElvisNash I actually like that 'double edge sword'. I write a lot of controversial material. Some of which would be banned here.
Rebel Renee 😍 (that should 'a been my handle)!
1 -
Not really rebel , Alot of straight people would agree with you , its the political correct climate I'm talking about
I have no problem with your song

@HummerWisdom - certainly get comments on both sides, that's for sure...

The title is "Let' Boys Be Boys, Girls Be Girls, but the implication is "Make'. I don't like that part.

I choose to leave it, I'm squarely on the "live an' let live" side of the fence.

@RainyDayMan last night trying to fall asleep I tried to absorb your take; 'make' versus 'let'. I suppose, underneath it all I'm speaking to those who are trying to make boys, girls and vice-a-verse. Obviously, that's not made clear. I tried not to get too preachy and tried my best to keep it light tho' it's a heavy subject. While I am with Sid; 'live and let live' (due to free will granted by God), sometimes I just can't help myself from the side of the fence I sit on to write about it.
I appreciate your take,
Renee

Ain’t no Adam and Steve LOL

@Barry wish I could take credit for it but I heard it a long the line somewhere; can't recall where but it sort of stuck with me. But I guess as songwriter's that's part of our job; always on the alert for some way to say something, interestingly.
Also, it was an afterthought to use it in this song. I pondered, yes or no and then she kind of sang herself into it. Glad you like it! 😉

Oh there's Adam and Steve , just not in the Bible

@HummerWisdom - I don't know why you feel hesitant performing this live, if you had the chance.. it's a thought provoking song, regardless of where you stand. take the song Lola by the Kinks, even though that is based on a true story, the subject matter was a bit risque for 1970, but it brought to life a subject not normally discussed.

@bhengen if the truth be known, I hesitate to performing any of my songs live. Been there done that and probably ain't goin' back again at least not on stage with mics and all. I have stage fright terribly! While I did it for a few years a few years back, I really didn't enjoy it all that much. Of course, I'm in Nashville where the talent is AWESOME of which I can't possibly compare. Tho' I had a few shining moments, I had to leave it behind, the bar scene and all. Never been much of a barroom gal tho' I put on a good act.
Tho' I'm still open to song circles; no stage, no mics and yes, this song I'd play for the right audience (as if there's one) and knowing some would roll their eyes. Anyway, I do better just writing and posting 'em online. After all, I'm not all that much on guitar and my singing is deplorable, tho' I will say I haven't come across anyone who sounds vocally nor musically like me.
But still, I hate the fact that I'm 5'7'' and all but 125 lbs, very feminine physic but have a husky voice like a lumberjack, lol! In the past children have questioned, based upon my low voice, my true sex which is frightening to me!
Thank you for your vote of confidence,
Renee
