My-O-My How Time Flies By
Greetings Songsters and Poets alike. Here's a look at my workday of which really sucks but it is what it is so I thought I'd put it to some rockin' blues. Backing track by reinhold tracks, YouTube.
Any thoughts, suggestions is appreciated. A bit on the lengthy side as I wanted to use up the entire track so my ending might be better this time around, BUT I still muffed it up a bit! 😜
MY-O-MY HOW TIME FLIES BY
Ooooh-oooh-oooh
[Verse 1]
Rise up, 6 a.m. let the dog outside
Put on a pot ‘a coffee, rub the sleep from my eyes
Make a smoothie for lunch, grab a quick shower
Cook up a couple ‘a eggs and toast to devour
My-o-my how time flies by
[Verse 2]
Swishin’ toilets and pushin’ a vac and a mop
Like a locomotion train, ain’t got a minute to stop
Don’t dare to look at the clock, sure to be runnin’ late
Drivin’ to my next house like hurry up an’ wait
My-o-my how time flies by
[Music]
[Verse 3]
Well, it’s been a day, I’m drivin’ home from work
Freeway traffic movin’ slow, how my neck hurts
Should’ve been home by five, lucky to get there by six
Turn up Roots Radio, try an’ come to grips
My-o-my how time flies by
[Verse 4]
And I think of my mother and my father, too
And how much I miss them and Brother, I miss you
‘Cuz it seems like just yesterday we were kids
Summer went on forever now, winter’s all there is
My-o-my how time flies by
[Music]
[Verse 5]
Now, I’m pulling in my drive, my dog Lucy’s in the window
She’s glad to see me pull in, missed me like no tomorrow
And speakin’ of no tomorrow, that could just be true
‘Cuz the older you get the faster the reaper comes for you
My-o-my how time flies by
[Music]
[Verse 1 Return]
Rise up, 6 a.m. let the dog outside
Put on a pot ‘a coffee, rub the sleep from my eyes
Make a smoothie for lunch, grab a quick shower
Cook up a couple ‘a eggs and toast to devour
My-o-my how time flies by!

@HummerWisdom - Good lyrics.. I would do something with a quick tempo, similar the a day in the life... then switch to minor chords for the more reflective parts.. can't wait to hear the music

The lyrics are very real. They give me good imagery and that feeling of chugging along. I love those daily reflections on life while driving home, this especially is something I can relate to these days. In my opinion it ends perfectly with the repeating of the first verse of this seemingly endless cycle. Nice work

It's in the mundane, where all the diamonds lie. All the best songs come out of the little things.
The simplicity of the theme is it's strength, e.g. Penny Lane by the Beatles, yours is similar Renee.
Well done.

Reads well Renee!
You might consider converting V4 into a bridge - ie just give it a different melody and music at that point. Lyrically it already feels like a break from the main narrative, so I think that might work quite well and provide that little variation too.

The grind of the day to day is illustrated well in your lyric, I like how you brought the first verse back to represent how the whole rinse and repeat routine can wear you down. I look forward to hearing it, nice writing Renee1
Howdy, Stranger!
