The Weight of Hate

This is a song I co-wrote with a friend, Pat Feely whom I've never met, like y'all on here. He's in Dundalk Ireland. Hé used to be on here several years ago. He's writing poetry now last contact we've had.

The weight of hate lies
heavy on your shoulders
occupies your mind
as your heart grows colder
it eats at your gut
creeps inside your soul
you will never have no peace
until you let it go
hate is mighty
heavy burden to bear
you can't pretend
that it ain't there
the weight will drag
you down eventually
until you let it go
you will never be free
until you let it go
you can never
break free
you gotta break free
break free
you gotta break free
the weight of hate lay
heavy on my shoulders
it occupied my mind
made my heart grow colder
it ate at my gut
crept inside my soul
I never could find peace
until I let it go
I never had no peace
until I let it go
break free
you gotta break free
break free
you gotta break free
break free
set yourself free

You guys are so good, your style is addictive, I could listen to this on loop and still find something new each time round. Diamond in the rough, love it.

Love it, Toney! The music is superb! And your vocal works perfectly for the blues! Love a gritty, gravely REAL voice! I also appreciate the Scripture you used in the photo.
Keep 'em coming!
Your fan,

I like that. Good lyric! I remember Pat from his days here. Strong message.
Solid instrumentation all round. Lead is the star, but the piano is a really solid foundation and the drums too.
Good work.

Well, that guitar got us off to a great start..great playing. Again, I'm reminded of JJ Cale with your vocal style...
A lovely track.😀

@ Sid Thanks so much, Sid. appreciate it, my friend.
@ Renee, Thanks so much, Renee. My voice wasn't like this until 12 years ago or so. I forgot to get my flu shot and got a severe case of it, which lasted for almost 3 weeks. Half of that was pure hell and I felt like I was dying at times. It left me with scar tissue in my left lung and part of my wind pipe. But I like my voice better now, as it's not as noticeable when I go off key! lol

Thanks Owen. Pat and I actually did a folk style duet of this, but my southern drawl and his thick Irish accent didn't set very well together. So Pat did it with just him playing guitar and singing. He sent me the link which led to here. That's how I found out about this site.

Thank You, Chris. The lead guitarist is Jack Perkins. He's also the one playing resonator guitar on my track My Old Truck.

I agree with lyrics, and loved the intrumental mood of the song and the voice1

The thing about hate and resentment for me, it's like drinking poison hoping the person you hate dies, it consumes you from the inside till you're gone. I think you captured that in your song. I love these jam sessions you guys are doing.

@Cove listened to your song again today while working (I clean houses) as it came up on my SoundCloud. Got me through a few agonizing moments. Even better the second-time around! 😍
